A note from our Senior Managing Director, John B. Petrick:

Last weekend while attending my daughters gymnastics competition at the Las Vegas Mega Meet, I got a reminder that resilience isn’t something you talk about- it’s something you practice.

Two weeks earlier in Anaheim, my daughter had the toughest meet of her young career. After three-plus years of competing, she finished 15th out of 19 all-around and missed the podium on every event for the first time. With 20+ hours a week already devoted to training, it would have been easy for an 11-year-old to feel defeated and pull back.

She did the opposite. She asked for more work. Extra private lessons. More reps. More focus.

In Vegas, she showed up differently. She opened on beam with a personal-best score, followed by a second-place finish on floor. By the end of the night, she was back on the podium in all four events and finished second all-around.

But what made me proud wasn’t the medals.

Even in Anaheim, discouraged and disappointed, she was the first to put an arm around a teammate after a fall. Somewhere along the way, a little smiling, stuffed hedgehog named “Tomy” (that she had won at Cotillion a few weeks prior) became the team mascot and a little symbol of that positivity. And as a team, they’ve now won their first two meets of the season with Tomy by their sides.

She’s learning something far bigger than gymnastics: when things don’t go your way, you don’t retreat- you lean in, support the people around you, and get better together. I’m incredibly proud of her perseverance, her attitude, and the way she shows up for her team.

And honestly, that’s exactly how we try to operate at Perennial Financial Services.

Advisors join us at all different stages. Some are coming off of great seasons. Some are coming off frustrating ones. Some are navigating change, growth, or adversity. What matters most isn’t where you finished at your last meet- it’s how you respond and whether you’re part of a team that helps you put in the extra reps so you can show up stronger next time.

That “iron sharpens iron” mindset we talk about so often? I saw it play out in an 11-year-old this weekend.

Proud dad moment. Proud team moment.

The beginning of the year is a good moment to step back and take stock; not to overhaul everything, but to make sure your financial strategy still matches your life.

Changes don’t always come with big announcements. A new role, shifting priorities, market movement, or future plans quietly shape how your finances should work for you.

At Perennial Financial Services, we focus on helping clients stay aligned, informed, and confident as their plans evolve over time.
