⚠️ ALERT: RECENT SCAM TARGETING CRYPTO USERS ⚠️
Scammers are mailing official-looking fake IRS letters demanding you log into a "Digital Asset Compliance Portal" before an urgent deadline.
Scanning the QR code on the letter takes you to a fake IRS website designed to steal your personal info, exchange credentials, and crypto wallet access.
A few quick rules of thumb to keep your money safe:
~Never scan codes from unsolicited letters, texts, or emails claiming to be from the government.
~Breathe and slow down. Scammers rely on panic and fake urgency to trick us into acting fast. The real IRS won't demand immediate online compliance via a QR code.
~Never, ever share your wallet recovery phrases or private keys. The IRS will NEVER ask for them.
~Secure all of your accounts: Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) and monitor your accounts regularly.
~Unsure if a notice is real? Bring it to us! As tax professionals, we can look into it, verify its legitimacy through official channels, and make sure your tax standing is clear. You can also verify on your own by visiting IRS.gov directly.
Got a suspicious IRS letter? Report it immediately at TIGTA.gov or [email protected].
Feel free to give us a call or pop into our office if you ever get mail from the IRS that doesn't feel right.
Please share this info with those close to you, especially if they are into crypto! Keep your money safe!
