A common question is: “How do financial advisors earn their fees?”

It’s a good question — and one worth asking. Financial advisor fees may support investment management, financial planning, ongoing guidance, portfolio monitoring, retirement income planning, education, tax-aware decisions, and help during major life changes.

The value is not always just in one decision. Often, it is in helping you make better decisions over time. Sometimes that means helping you grow your money. Sometimes it means helping protect what you have. Sometimes it means helping you avoid a costly mistake. And sometimes it means giving you confidence to enjoy the life you have worked hard to build.

We talk more about this in our latest blog. Read it here.

In a world full of AI, DIY investing apps, and online financial tools, it’s fair to wonder, do you still need a financial advisor? This blog breaks down when DIY may work, when professional guidance can add value, and why planning becomes especially important as retirement gets closer.

Doing it yourself can be a great option when your financial life is simple.

Budgeting, saving, learning investment basics, and tracking expenses are all areas where DIY tools can be very helpful.

But as you get closer to retirement, the decisions often get bigger — and more connected.
When should you retire? When should you claim Social Security? How will you create income? What about Medicare, taxes, investment withdrawals, and long-term planning?

That’s when financial planning can start to feel a little less like a checklist and a little more like financial Jenga.

We unpack this more in our latest blog. Read it here: https://pursuitwp.com/pwp-blogs

AI can explain financial terms, answer questions, and help you learn. But your financial life is not just a math problem.

Your goals, family, retirement timeline, tax picture, investment accounts, income needs, fears, and dreams all matter.

That’s where a financial advisor can help. Not just by providing information, but by helping you turn that information into a clear plan.

In our latest blog, we talk about the role of AI, DIY tools, and full-service financial advice in today’s world.

Markets pushed higher in August as AI-driven optimism helped investors look past softer economic data. The S&P 500 gained 2.62% and the S&P/TSX Composite rose 2.96%, even as softening retail sales kept consumer spending in focus. Back-to-school season adds another data point to that story, with spending expected to reach \$146.8 billion in the U.S. and \$4.5 billion in Canada this year.

Monthly Market Insights | September 2026 U.S. and Canadian Markets Renewed enthusiasm for AI pushed stocks higher in August as investors looked past mixed economic signals. In a world full of DIY investing apps, online tools, and AI, it’s fair to ask: “Do I still need a financial advisor?”

The answer depends on your life stage, your goals, and how complex your financial picture has become. DIY tools can be helpful. AI can explain a lot. But as you get closer to retirement, financial decisions often become more connected — investments, taxes, Social Security, Medicare, income planning, and family goals all start working together.

In our latest blog, we break down when DIY may be enough, when it may be time to work with a financial advisor, and how to think about the value of full-service financial advice.

You’re allowed to be part of the plan too.

It’s easy to put yourself last when you’re caring for parents and supporting kids—but your future matters just as much.

The goal isn’t to choose between them…

It’s to find a way to support the people you love and move confidently toward your own retirement.

If this resonates, our latest blog is worth a read: https://pursuitwp.com/pwp-blogs

3 common mistakes we see in the Sandwich Generation:

• Putting retirement on hold
• Saying “yes” to every financial ask
• Avoiding tough family conversations

Totally understandable… but also fixable.

A little structure and clarity can go a long way in helping you support your family and protect your future.

We walk through what actually helps in our latest blog: https://pursuitwp.com/pwp-blogs

If you’ve ever felt like you’re being pulled in two directions at once—you’re not imagining it. Welcome to life in the “sandwich generation.” You’re helping aging parents navigate health, finances, and tough decisions… while also supporting kids (or even grandkids) who still need you...

“We’re helping everyone… but are we still okay?”

That’s the question a couple recently asked us—and honestly, it’s one we hear a lot. Between supporting a parent’s health needs and helping an adult child get on their feet, they felt stretched thin and unsure if they were still on track for retirement.

The good news? They weren’t off track. They just didn’t have a clear plan.

That one shift made all the difference. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
