How is your business actually doing heading into the final quarter?

And we don’t mean, “Well… the bank account looks okay.” 👀

October is a smart time to review your profitability, cash flow, projected tax liability, payroll, upcoming expenses, and year-end goals.

Knowing where your numbers stand now gives you time to make informed decisions before December 31.

That’s where good bookkeeping turns into better business planning and where PTG can help.

A tax deduction doesn’t make a bad business purchase a good one.

Before buying equipment, vehicles, software, or other big-ticket items just to lower your taxable income, ask:

Does the business really need it?
Does the purchase qualify for the deduction we’re expecting?
Will it be placed in service before year-end?
And does taking the deduction this year make sense for our bigger tax picture?

Your tax strategy should support your business, not run it. If you have questions, ask your friendly tax experts at PTG!

Business owners: your Q3 Form 941 is due October 31, 2026.

Before filing, make sure your payroll records, tax deposits, and reporting all match up. Payroll mistakes can become expensive quickly, so this is one deadline worth getting right.

If payroll is taking more time than it should, PTG can help simplify the process and take one more thing off your plate.

Year-end has a way of sneaking up on all of us.

If gifting, charitable giving, trust planning, or other estate strategies are on your 2026 to-do list, October is a great time to start the conversation.

Planning early gives you time to understand the tax impact, coordinate with your financial and legal professionals, and make decisions intentionally, not in a December 30th scramble.

The holidays can be last-minute. Your financial strategy doesn’t have to be. 😉

If you’re 65 or older, check with your county assessor to see whether you qualify to have the assessed value of your primary residence frozen.

This can help protect eligible homeowners from future increases in assessed value as property values rise.

One important note: the freeze applies to the assessed value, not necessarily the final tax bill.

It’s a small question that could make a meaningful difference, so don’t assume it happens automatically. Ask!

Your next federal estimated tax payment may not be due until January 15, 2027, but that doesn’t mean you should wait until January to think about it.

If you have the downtime, October is a great time to look at your year-to-date income, business profits, withholding, and any major changes that could affect what you owe.

We can help you plan ahead so your next payment doesn’t come as a surprise.

Arkansas property taxes are due October 15, 2026.

That includes real estate and personal property taxes, so now is the time to double-check what you owe and make sure payment is submitted on time.

And if you aren't sure what you owe, just call PTG. Your future self will appreciate that. 😉

Use October to review your year-to-date income, withholding, business profits, investment activity, bonuses, and major deductions. A Q4 tax projection can help you get a clearer picture of where you stand before your final estimated payment is due.

Taxes are much easier to manage when you know what's coming. Call PTG for expert tax services. 🙌

If you’re 50+ and making catch-up contributions to an employer retirement plan, 2026 brought some important changes.

Under SECURE 2.0, certain higher-earning employees are now required to make their catch-up contributions as Roth contributions instead of pre-tax contributions.

For employers, that means payroll and retirement plan settings need to be ready. For employees, it could mean a change in take-home pay and how those retirement dollars are taxed.

Retirement rules love details. Luckily, so do we. 😎

Filed an extension earlier this year? October 15 is your final deadline to file your 2025 federal tax return.

Just remember: an extension gave you more time to file, not more time to pay. If you still have a balance due, penalties and interest may already be adding up.

Need help getting everything across the finish line? We can help.
