🚨 IRS TRANSCRIPT CODES WHAT THEY ACTUALLY MEAN ‼️‼️
826 – Part or all of your refund was taken to pay a debt (offset). This can be child support, student loans, prior tax debt, etc.
846 – Refund approved. This means the IRS has issued your refund or scheduled it.
570 – Refund hold. The IRS needs to review something before releasing your refund.
971 – Notice issued. This usually explains why there is a hold or what additional information is needed. Often paired with code 570.
810 – Refund freeze. This is more serious and usually involves suspected issues that require review before any refund can be released.
811 – Refund freeze reversed. The IRS lifted the freeze after reviewing the issue.
091 – Revocation of being taxed as a small business. This is related to entity tax classification, not personal refunds.
177 – Abatement of estimated tax penalty. The IRS removed a penalty that was previously assessed.
768 – Earned Income Credit (EITC) applied to the account.
424 – Examination request. Your return was referred to IRS Examination or Appeals for review.
425 – Examination reversed. The prior 424 review was closed or removed.
Important: Transcript codes are not random and they don’t mean “panic.” They tell you exactly where your return is in the process. Always read the codes together, not in isolation.
