Oak Road Wealth Management

Oak Road Wealth Management We help our clients prepare for a confident retirement! Oak Road Wealth Management is a Fee-only registered investment advisory firm.

We pledge to act as a fiduciary and not accept fees or commissions based on the sale of investment products or service providers. This drastically reduces the inherent conflicts of interest and allows us to always act in the best interest of our clients. EMPLOYERS

We help companies prepare their employees for retirement by acting as the financial advisor on their retirement plan. We create a micro-website for each of our retirement plan clients that gives employees easy access to their financial advisor and other tools. Employees can access their account, schedule an appointment with their financial advisor and view recent video content. We help you understand the sometimes complex and non-transparent structure of your retirement plan. We can help your leadership team understand and manage their fiduciary responsibilities. In many cases, we can help you make changes that will simplify the plan and may result in significant cost savings to the company and your employees. FAMILIES

We help families gain confidence in their ability to achieve their retirement goals. We provide financial planning and investment management services. We work with you to help identify the resources you have accumulated for retirement, consider your current savings rate and help you identify your retirement goals. We create a financial plan for you that gives you a sense of your probability of success for meeting all of your goals. If your probability of success is not as high as you'd like, we work with you to help you make the necessary changes to get you there! Together, we will review your plan regularly to make sure you are still on pace to meet all of your goals! We manage your investment dollars in a manner that reflects your needs based on your financial plan, your risk tolerance and your time horizon.

A retirement “magic number” is usually too simple to be useful.
Your target should be based on your goals, spending, income sources, risk tolerance, taxes, health care, and expected time horizon—not a number chosen by the media.

RMDs are often criticized because they can create taxable income at a time when a retiree may not need additional cash flow.
But the better question is how RMDs fit into your broader retirement-income, tax, charitable, and investment strategy.

Have you ever thought through a financial decision so many times that you’re no longer sure what you think?

You’ve run the scenarios. Read the articles. Talked it over at home. Maybe you’ve even made a decision, only to reconsider it the next morning.

We see this when the stakes feel especially high, like retirement, selling a business, helping family, or making a major purchase.

Sometimes you don’t need more information. You need the space to sort through what you already know and determine what matters most.

That’s where a thoughtful conversation can help.

Financial independence creates options, but it does not automatically create purpose.
Retirement planning should include both the question, “Can I afford to retire?” and the question, “What will make retirement meaningful?”

Sometimes we hold ourselves to decisions we made for a version of life that no longer exists.

Maybe you planned to retire at 65, but your work still feels meaningful. Maybe you always pictured staying in your home, but now you'd rather have the freedom to travel. Maybe supporting family or giving back has become more important than something you spent years saving toward.

As life gives us new experiences, our priorities have a way of evolving with them.

Your financial plan should leave room for that.

A will can help clarify where your assets go, even if you do not have children. It is also important to consider financial and medical powers of attorney while you are alive.
Estate planning is about more than inheritance. It is also about control, clarity, and making difficult situations easier for the people you trust.
Estate laws vary by state, so personalized legal advice may be appropriate.

The most meaningful giving often starts with a simple question: What do I want this gift to make possible?

Maybe it’s giving a student an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t have. Preserving a place that matters to your family. Supporting research that has touched your life. Or strengthening an organization that has served your community for decades.

When you start with the impact you hope to make, charitable planning becomes a much more personal conversation.

The new role looks great. The compensation is compelling. You’re ready for what’s next.

Before you say yes, take a close look at what happens when you leave your current employer.

For executives, unvested equity, deferred compensation, benefits, and other provisions can make the timing of a career move worth a closer look.

While pensions are generally fully taxable at the federal level, state laws vary wildly. Some states exempt pension income entirely, while others tax it heavily. Understanding your net income after state taxes is critical before locking in your retirement budget.

A lot can change in a year. Medicare Open Enrollment gives you an opportunity to see whether your coverage should change with it.

Have your prescriptions changed? Your doctors? Your income? Are healthcare costs fitting into your retirement plan the way you expected?

Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, making this a good time to take another look and bring any questions into your next planning conversation.

We can help you consider how healthcare costs fit into your broader financial picture and coordinate with the appropriate Medicare professionals when needed.
