“I have enough saved to retire, right?”

It sounds like a question with a number for an answer. Usually, it leads to a much more useful conversation.

How much will you need to spend each month? Where will that income come from? If you retire before Medicare, how will you cover health insurance? Which accounts would you draw from first, and what could that mean for your taxes?

Then there’s the part that matters just as much: what do you want retirement to look like? Traveling more? Helping your kids? Staying in your home? Finally having more control over your time?

Your investment balance matters, but it can’t answer all of that on its own. A financial plan connects the numbers to the life you want and gives you a way to make decisions as things change.

If retirement is starting to feel close and you’d like to talk through the bigger picture, let’s have a conversation.

Stocks finished the third quarter mixed. The S&P 500 gained 2.03%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.47%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 2.70%. Halloween is next on the calendar, with U.S. consumers expected to spend \$13.5 billion USD this year and 6.26 million Canadian children in their trick-or-treating years.

Stocks were mixed in the third quarter as economic, geopolitical, and corporate earnings news pushed the broad market higher while weighing on the Dow Industrials.

October has a way of making the end of the year feel a lot closer.

I’ve caught myself looking at my own calendar and thinking, “Wait, weren’t we just making summer plans?”

This is usually when I encourage people to pull up their finances for a quick check-in. Look at what you’ve saved so far, any big expenses coming before year-end, and whether the goals you set in January still fit your life today.

You don’t need to have everything figured out in one sitting. Sometimes the most useful part is simply noticing what’s changed while there’s still time to adjust.

What’s one financial task you’d feel good getting done before the end of the year?

October is a dangerous month for my productivity.

Football is on, playoff baseball is here, and I’m still trying to convince myself there’s time to fix my golf swing before the season ends.

I can spend an impressive amount of time analyzing a fantasy lineup, then realize I’ve been putting off a ten-minute task on my actual to-do list. I’m guessing I’m not alone.

So here’s my October challenge to myself: take care of one thing I’ve been avoiding before I check another score.

What’s the one thing you keep saying you’ll “get to this week”?

10/05/2026

I spend my days helping people approach important decisions with patience, discipline, and a long-term perspective.

Then the Yankees play October baseball, and I’m pacing around the living room questioning every pitch. 😂⚾

If you know me, you know I’m a huge Yankees fan. Tonight’s plans involve pinstripes, talking to the television, and firmly believing my seat on the couch can influence the outcome.

Any other Yankees fans mentally preparing for tonight? 🙋‍♂️

Let’s go Yankees!

Monday Night Football is on tonight, which means I’ll probably spend part of the evening acting like I could call a better game from my couch.

That’s one thing I love about this time of year. The weeks get busy, but a game gives you a reason to slow down, catch up with people, and enjoy a few hours together.

I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. We spend so much time planning for the future that it’s easy to forget what we’re planning *for*. For me, it’s more time with Colleen, our dogs, family and friends, and more nights where I can put work down and be present.

A good financial plan should help you make room for that life along the way.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this fall?
