In the fitness world, RPE (rating of perceived exertion) is one of my favorite metrics. It tells you whether you’re actually working at the level required to create the adaptation you want.

If every workout sits at a 3 or 4 out of 10, here's what happens:
• You feel productive.
• You're going through the motions.
• But you don’t get the results you desire.

Your financial life works the exact same way.

If your “financial RPE” is consistently low, your potential outcomes are likely to be muted. A low financial RPE may include:
• Avoiding the hard decisions.
• Delaying the planning.
• Failing to give taxes enough attention.

Real change requires real effort. Consistent, meaningful exertion toward the future you want.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝘀! 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿...

There's so much value derived from having a stay-at-home parent when children are young. Harvard Business School research led by Kathleen McGinn offers a reassuring message for working moms.

The study found that daughters of employed mothers tend to earn more and step into leadership roles more often.

Sons of working mothers grow up contributing more at home and with childcare duties.

Careers and thriving families can absolutely coexist.

Thanks to Michelle Chun for bringing this study to my attention.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽.

I’m supporting a very sweet woman in her early 80s. She’s incredibly organized. She keeps every statement neatly filed in a 3‑ring binder. So on the surface, her adult children understandably have assumed everything is taken care of.

When I asked whether she had any debt, she confidently said NO.

But in reviewing her finances, I found a HELOC opened two years ago, maxed out with a $20k balance at a 7% variable interest rate.

She became frustrated and flustered and said "I only use a debit card. I do not have any debt."

For everyday purchases, she had been using what she believed was a "debit card." She didn't realize this card is tied to that HELOC.

If you’re able to offer support and your loved one is willing to receive it, even a small check‑in can help prevent an unpleasant financial surprise.

"𝙒𝙚'𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙖𝙭𝙚𝙨."

I've been hearing this often. What does it mean and how do you know if you're paying more than necessary?

Maybe it's because...

• Your income jumped but your tax strategy didn’t.
• You’re not using all available deductions.
• You haven’t reviewed your withholdings since your income changed.
• You’re not coordinating taxes with your investments. Capital gains, tax‑loss harvesting, or asset location.
• You only think about taxes at tax time instead of planning proactively throughout the year.
• Your CPA files your return, but no one is helping you proactively strategize.

High‑income professionals often overpay simply because their financial life gets more complex and they're too busy to address it.

The WealthClarity team recently spent the day with Brothers Redevelopment, Inc. for a Volunteer Paint-A-Thon, helping a City of Arvada homeowner give his home a much needed fresh coat of paint.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand in our community and proud of our whole team for showing up ready to work. A special shout out to Nancy, who arrived in a sling with a fresh shoulder injury!

I've done a few things I'm proud of. Nothing is close to this one.

If I may boast for a moment... she is a very cool girl. She loves adventuring in the mountains. She's a great cook. She reads every day. She still loves to cuddle. And she has been a phenomenal big sister since she was 17 months old.

She's amazing. We are very lucky. I am so thankful to be her Mom.

One of my new clients told me that when he's out at a work-related happy hour or chatting with co-workers, everyone is talking about Roth versus pre-tax 401k decisions and how much they're all saving and in what type of account.

I love this!

Creating a healthy mix of taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth accounts gives you options and flexibility in the future. Instead of having one or two buckets to pull from, you'll have three. That flexibility is worth more in retirement than almost any single investment decision you make.

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗽...

Not in the “I upgraded my car and bought a bigger house” kind of way.

For years, I was the person who hunted down the best grocery prices, didn't pay more than $50 on a pair of sneakers, parked in the Pikes Peak airport lot and took the shuttle at mightnight to catch a cheap red‑eye.

But over the last few years of raising a family and having two full-time working parents, my version of lifestyle creep became all about buying back my time.

Now, my husband and I happily pay the company that assembles the 100‑item school supply list. We order groceries to be delivered to our front door. We pay an incredible cleaning crew (led by a hardworking grandma running her own small business) to handle the deep cleaning. We park close to the airport and skip the shuttle. And I no longer even consider red‑eye flights because I know exactly how awful I'll feel the next day.

And yet…
I still drive my 2012 Highlander with 150k+ miles. And I still love it.
I still live in the first home we bought in 2013.
I don't really think I'm chasing “more.” If anything, I'm chasing less.

Our lifestyle creep has come in the form of spending money to free up time for the people and activities we care about. We are splurging on a couple family vacations every year and that quality time with our daughters at these ages is money well spent.

The most expensive thing in your financial life right now is probably a decision you haven't made. Or something you aren't even aware of.

Indecision and procrastination can be expensive.
