⚠️ Money is one of the most consistently cited sources of stress in America.

For caregivers, that weight often increases! 😮

Having a clearer picture of where things stand can help ease some of the uncertainty that makes financial stress feel heaviest in the first place.

There's no clean solution to money stress.

Most of it is caused by the unknown. The uncertainty.

World Mental Health Day recognizes just how deeply finances can impact our well-being (and vice versa).

If financial stress has been sitting in the background of your life this year, a conversation with a professional can go a long way, be it a mental health professional or a financial professional. Pursuing comfort, understanding, and compassion is a team sport.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to prioritize health.

Early detection through regular screenings is one of the most effective tools we have in the fight against breast cancer.

Here are a few small things we can do this October:

✅ Schedule your annual screening if you haven't yet

✅ Educate yourself and others on risk factors and preventative lifestyle habits

✅ Support research and organizations dedicated to advancing breast cancer prevention and care

Taking charge of your health today makes all the difference for tomorrow. 🎗️

Stocks finished the third quarter mixed. The S&P 500 gained 2.03%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.47%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 2.70%. Halloween is next on the calendar, with U.S. consumers expected to spend \$13.5 billion USD this year and 6.26 million Canadian children in their trick-or-treating years.

Stocks were mixed in the third quarter as economic, geopolitical, and corporate earnings news pushed the broad market higher while weighing on the Dow Industrials.

🎨 Some of the art world's most extraordinary paintings are about to return to the public eye after nearly half a century.
On November 18, Sotheby's will auction 12 Impressionist and post-Impressionist artworks in New York. The collection, assembled by Argentine collectors Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier and Carlos Pedro Blaquier, is valued at approximately $450 million.
Among the highlights:
🌳 Vincent van Gogh's Chestnut Trees in Flower: Estimated at $180 million, the landscape was painted in 1890, shortly after the artist left a psychiatric asylum.
🖼️ Paul Cézanne's Arlequin: Estimated at $120 million, the portrait depicts the artist's son dressed as a harlequin.
🖌️ Works by Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Pissarro: The collection also includes Parisian cityscapes, a horse-racing scene, and a boating scene.
The collection has been largely unseen for about half a century, making this a rare look at works that have spent decades in private hands.
With Sotheby's anticipating international interest, the November auction could also set new records for the artists.

There's a reason so many women business owners half-joke that their real title is "everything."

More women than ever are starting and running businesses, and they're doing it at a faster clip than the market overall.

Census data show women now own more than 14 million businesses nationwide, a number that's grown 26 percent since 2012, compared with 19 percent growth for businesses as a whole.

A lot of that growth is happening online, where women-owned businesses tend to be more digitally integrated than those owned by men.

It also means millions of women are managing key decisions from scratch:

💼 How income gets paid (salary, distributions, or owner draws) and what that means at budget time

💼 Which retirement vehicle fits, and how much room there is to contribute

💼 How healthcare, disability, and other insurance get sourced without an employer default

💼 How the business gets valued, and what a sale or transition would actually look like

💼 How personal finances stay untangled from the business's finances

Wearing a tall stack of hats doesn't make entrepreneurship harder than it's worth. Plenty of women running these businesses would say the trade-offs are part of the deal. But it does mean the hats keep stacking up, one on top of the other.

This month is a good time to tip our own hats to the women doing it all at once.

Sometimes the best lessons about financial planning come from unexpected places.

This past Saturday, Mark and I were getting our home and yard ready for the upcoming HRC AAPI charity event, and I had one of those moments that made me stop and think.

Mark is the designer in our family. He has the creative eye and can see the possibilities long before I can. He had a vision for what our outdoor space could look like, but like many of us, sometimes having a great vision and actually moving forward with it are two different things.

That's where I came in.

I kept encouraging him: “You have the vision. Let's trust it and make it happen.”

So we did.

And then there was our boss, Cody 🐶, who apparently believes leadership means lying comfortably in the yard while everyone else does the work. 😂

As I watched Mark's vision start to come together, I realized how closely this mirrors what I do with my clients.

In financial planning, investment strategy, life insurance planning, and estate planning, we can spend a lot of time designing the right strategy. But even the best plan doesn't accomplish much if we never execute it.

Over the years, I've learned that my role isn't just about numbers, products, or strategies.

It's also about listening. Understanding what someone wants for themselves and their family. Helping them see the possibilities. And sometimes, it's simply being the person beside them who says:

“You have a good plan. Let's take the next step.”

Mark had the vision.
I gave him the push to move forward.
And Cody provided moral support from the lawn. 🐶❤️

It reminded me that whether we're designing a garden or planning our financial future:

Vision gives us direction.
Planning gives us a roadmap.
Encouragement gives us confidence.
Ex*****on turns the plan into reality.

Sometimes we don't need a better plan. We simply need the confidence, and the right people around us, to begin.

🎂 Japan just crossed a milestone: for the first time, more than 100,000 people there are age 100 or older.

According to the country's Health and Welfare Ministry, Japan now counts 107,677 centenarians, up nearly 8,000 from the year before. Almost 88 percent are women. The country's oldest resident, Kyoto's Fuyo Kishimoto, recently turned 114.

🎌 Officials point to progress in medical care, along with healthier lifestyles and diet, as part of what's driving the trend. And Japan isn't alone; life expectancies have been rising in many countries over the past several decades.

It's a good reminder of how many more years many of us may be around for, and why that's worth factoring into conversations about the road ahead, from healthcare to how a longer stretch of years gets supported financially.

That's exactly the kind of long-term thinking we like to talk through together.

The number of people aged 100 or older in Japan has surpassed a record 100,000 this year. The latest figures from Japan's government underscore the country’s rapid aging and population decrease.

Cyber criminals pay extra attention to accounts tied to money.

A 2026 FBI study found that over 12,400 of those victims lost more than $100,000 each, and the average reported loss across elder fraud victims that year was $38,500. Here are a few habits to fine-tune your digital security this month:

🔐 Turn on multi-factor authentication everywhere it's offered. Yes, it’s annoying, but according to a 2026 CISA report, using it makes an account roughly 99 percent less likely to be broken into. It only takes a minute to set up.

🔐 Give every account its own password. Reusing one password means one leaked login unlocks everything else. A password manager handles this without requiring you to remember dozens of them.

🔐 When you go to the dentist, put a reminder on your calendar to also change your passwords. Changing passwords often makes your accounts just that much harder to reach.

🔐 Pause before clicking. Phishing remains the most commonly reported cybercrime in the country, more than any other category the FBI tracks.

🔐 Check statements regularly, and turn on account alerts. Catching something small and wrong early is a lot easier to unwind than catching something large and wrong months later.

🔐 Consider freezing your credit if you're not actively applying for new credit or loans. This takes 15 minutes, one time.

None of this requires becoming a security expert. Pick the one or two that you've been putting off, and do it this week.

What's one financial decision you've made that helped you feel more prepared for your future?

For many of the people we work with, it's not a single investment or product; it's taking the time to create an overall strategy.

🗓️ October is Financial Planning Month—which is all about how the pieces of your financial picture fit together to help pursue your financial goals.

It's about putting together a comprehensive approach that manages your investments and retirement, provides for your loved ones—all while staying flexible enough to adjust as things change.

💡 If you've been meaning to update your strategy or to create one for the first time, it's never too late to start.

What a Trip to Norway Taught Me About Trust and Financial Planning

While visiting Ålesund, Norway, I was captivated by the city's beautiful Art Nouveau architecture. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and resilience behind its reconstruction left a lasting impression on me.

At the same time, it made me reflect on a recent personal experience with a home interior design project. Like many people, I relied on a referral and assumed the credentials and expertise had already been verified. Unfortunately, that assumption proved costly.

As a financial advisor, I see a similar challenge every day. People often make important financial decisions based on recommendations, advertisements, or perceived expertise without taking the time to verify the facts.

One lesson I've learned, both personally and professionally:

Trust is important, but verification is essential.

Whether you're hiring an interior designer, selecting a financial advisor, purchasing insurance, choosing an investment strategy, or planning your estate, always do your due diligence.

✅ Verify credentials
✅ Ask questions
✅ Request references
✅ Understand the recommendations
✅ Make informed decisions

A referral from a friend is valuable, but it should be the beginning of your research, not the end.

The strongest relationships, whether personal or professional, are built on honesty, competence, transparency, and trust.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to help my clients navigate important financial decisions with those values in mind.
