Mary Dana Cooper
TAX OPERATIONS INTERN

Mary Dana has joined our team while pursuing her Master of Science in Taxation at SUNY Albany (expecting to graduate in May 2027), where she also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Financial Accounting. She graduated summa cm laude with a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics and Data Analysis, along with a double minor in Business and English.

Before entering the accounting world, Mary Dana spent twenty years building and operating her own yoga instruction business, teaching classes, workshops, and instructor training programs both nationally and internationally. As a small business owner, she gained firsthand experience in bookkeeping, client management, billing, and the many responsibilities that come with running a business.

At our firm, Mary Dana assists our tax professionals with tax-specific administration work, tax return preparation, reviewing client information, identifying missing documentation, and keeping our digital tax processes running smoothly. Her background in business ownership, combined with her analytical skills and accounting education, brings a unique perspective to our team.

Mary Dana lives in Kingston with her husband, Justin.

🌟 Out of the office and into the mountains for a little leadership development! 🏔️

This week, Rose Woodworth, Emily Brooks, and Zachary Sussin had the opportunity to attend the kickoff retreat for the 2026–2027 Leadership Ulster program at the beautiful Mohonk Mountain House! We even had a surprise guest appearance from Jordan Davis! 💚

We spent two incredible days stepping outside our comfort zones, building trust, connecting with other local leaders, and learning a little more about ourselves (and each other!) along the way.

From team-building exercises with Michael Bednarz and mindfulness with Dr. Nina Smiley to an inspiring presentation by Jay Rifenbary on returning to our core values, we came away with plenty to think about and even more to bring back to WZ Accountants.

Building a great business starts with building great leaders. As our firm continues to grow, so does our commitment to creating a workplace built on trust, integrity, accountability, and putting people first.

One of the things we love most about this experience is the opportunity to connect with people who are just as passionate about making our local community a better place to live and work.

A huge thank-you to the Ulster Chamber Foundation, Mohonk Mountain House, M&T Bank, and everyone who made these two days possible!

Here's to new friendships, personal growth, and bringing some fresh ideas back to the office. And maybe a few more team-building exercises for the rest of our staff. 😉💚

We may be accountants, but we’re also big believers in good people, strong relationships, smart technology… and, apparently, putting dogs in our marketing whenever possible. 🐾💚

We know we’re not the right firm for everyone — and that’s okay. We’re a great fit for clients who value personalized service, modern tools, proactive advice, and having a team that actually knows them.

Just as important to us? Community. We want to be more than a business that happens to be located here. We want to support the people, schools, nonprofits, and small businesses that make our area feel like home.

So yes… we love taxes. We love technology. We love our community. And we really, really love dogs. 😂

We took another look at this position and realized something important: our original pay range did not appropriately reflect the level of responsibility, organization, judgment, and client care we’re asking for in this role. So, we corrected it.

Our Client Communications Coordinator position is now $24–$27/hour, working approximately 30–34 hours per week, with no Fridays.

This person will be a key part of the client experience at WZ Accountants—helping keep communication organized, answering and routing questions, supporting clients with technology, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

We believe in being willing to reevaluate when something doesn’t feel right, and in paying people appropriately for the value they bring to our team. 💚
