You don’t need a fancy app to stay organized.

Just snap a picture of your receipts as you get them, and keep a simple spreadsheet (Google Sheets works great) for tracking mileage. That’s it.

There are tools out there if you want them, but you really don’t need to overcomplicate it. Small, consistent habits now save you a big headache come tax season. 📸🧾

"How much should I actually be setting aside for self-employment taxes?"

I hear this one often, and the answer is simpler than you think: 30%. It sounds like a lot until tax season hits and you realize... it's exactly the amount you needed. Every time.

Set it aside before you spend it, not after you need it. Future you will say thank you.

Whether you’re a business owner or not, don’t leave simple savings on the table….check into rewards program for savings on fuel costs. Some stores offer discounts on both diesel and regular gas, and some will cap you on the allowed gallons so make sure you understand the program offered at each location. Regardless, the small moves add up. Don’t overlook them.

Hiring a bookkeeper isn't a task to postpone until April; it's a proactive monthly habit.

Sure, there's a monthly cost associated. It's still cheaper than paying premium rates during tax for a year's worth of clean up, missing deductions for expenses you forgot existed back in June, or making blind decisions because you're operating without clear data all year.

I work from home, and I need a new couch...can I write that off? Heavy on the maybe.

The home office deduction can be of great benefit, and a phone call from the IRS if it's not used correctly. You'll want to make sure you have a dedicated workspace...used only for business. If you're trying to use that "office couch" for movie night, you just lost the deduction.

If you're unsure about what qualifies, drop me a note.

You opened an LLC to protect your personal assets, but if you're paying for personal expenses with your business card or paying business bills out of your personal account, you're inviting problems. Open a dedicated business checking account and pay yourself correctly through an owner draw, not by filling your personal gas tank with the company card. Clean books aren't just taxes, they help protect everything you've built.
