A dedicated business checking account and credit card can make bookkeeping easier, help you see how the business is actually performing, and save time when tax season rolls around.

When personal and business expenses are mixed together, someone eventually has to sort through all of it — and that usually means more time, more questions and potentially more accounting fees.

Keep it simple: business expenses from the business account, personal expenses from the personal account.

Your bookkeeper and CPA will thank you.

Hurricane season isn’t only about batteries and bottled water. It’s also a good time to make sure your financial records are protected.

For Northeast Florida families and business owners, consider keeping electronic copies of important documents such as tax returns, insurance policies, bank records, deeds and other key financial information. Photos or videos of valuable personal property and business equipment can also be helpful if you ever need to document a loss.

A few minutes spent organizing and backing up these records now can save a lot of time and frustration after a storm.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, so this is a good time to make sure your records are part of your preparedness plan.
