Mortgage rates update — week ending October 9, 2026
The 30-year fixed rose to 7.40% this week (7.28% last week, 6.30% a year ago). That's the 7th straight weekly increase. The 15-year is 6.73%; FHA about 6.91%.
Why? Bond yields kept climbing on inflation worries and heavy government borrowing. The next big moment is Wednesday's CPI inflation report, which can move rates quickly.
