I read today that they will be suddenly changing the way they calculate unemployment starting with today's report. It is bothersome that when the data doesn't tell the story you want, you can just change it. I have been concerned in recent years with the prominence companies have given to reporting non-GAAP earnings, which literally means it is NOT done with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and can include all kinds of made up money fluff. Yet, more companies than ever are using it to influence analysts and investors. I make every decision in life by referring to data, but so much of it just really can't be trusted.
