I keep trying to make things fit that just don’t quite fit anymore…

Yes, I’m talking about my clothes, but I’m also talking about my life, my career, my dreams, goals, and aspirations.

For a long time, I thought being a CFO for one organization was the dream. The pinnacle. The path I was supposed to follow. But on this side of things, I’m realizing that maybe it just wasn’t my path.

I’m in a season of a lot of clarity, self-exploration, learning, and growing. And, honestly, a lot of rewiring and un-molding. The kind that makes you look at things you’ve believed about yourself for decades and ask, “Wait… do I even want this anymore?”

This has me thinking about French.

I’ve signed up for French class what feels like 1,000 times. And once again, I’m starting at the beginning. Actually, pre-beginning. 😂

I’ve wanted to be fluent in French since high school. My brain dreams up random French phrases and sentences, but the foundation is shaky. And I think that’s because life kept getting in the way of something that has always felt like a core need. A little tug that never quite went away.

So here I am, 42 years old, unemployed in the traditional sense, still doing my fractional CFO work, and signing up for Tuesday French classes in the middle of the “workday.”

It feels a little ridiculous. A little scary. A little exciting.

But mostly, it feels like I’m finding my way back to myself.

Maybe this season isn’t about becoming someone new. Maybe it’s about remembering who I was before I got so good at becoming who I thought I was supposed to be.

Here’s to figuring out what actually fits. 💙🧡

🚨I have to tell you something…

“For the first time in forever…” 🎶🎤 - I won’t be punching anyone’s metaphorical clock!

Last month, I took the giant leap of investing in myself mentally, physically, and God-Willing financially! I started a new job in March and I realized that it’s not the jobs that I’ve been struggling with, it’s the structure, the lack of freedom, and the intense feeling of misalignment.

I have almost 20 years of accounting experience, been a CPA for 11, a Chief for 6 - and I’m just not happy. Somewhere along the line, I lost myself, my goals, my dreams, my passions. I love accounting, numbers, people, mission-driven orgs, but I have to find a way that works for me. That fits into my lifestyle, not the other way around. So I’m taking a gigantic leap.

If you would like to donate to the “Bee has lost her damn mind” fund, then feel free to do so! My savings will thank you!😂

So here’s to the beginning of a new journey of finding true alignment. I accept all duaas/prayers, well wishes, and positive vibes. I’m also accepted new nonprofit clients! 😉

Xoxo 😘❤️

“What about your friends?” 🎶🎵🎼

The Goldman Sachs program was transformative, challenging, and inspiring all on its own. But the friendships? They made the experience unforgettable.

✨ My business advisor, Dr. Aerial Ellis, taught me one of the biggest lessons I’ll carry forward: listen, then let go. Let go of the societal expectations, family pressures, and limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. We have permission to build businesses and lives that align with who we truly are. Thank you, Dr. Aerial. ❤️

Watching the women in my Growth Group flourish has been such a gift. I’m cheering for every one of you and can’t wait to see what’s next for GG18:

Montia - WING Employment Training Service
Kierra - Life of the Party Bus | Houston
Dr. Jodi - Dr. Jodi
Chasity - Chasity Black, RN
💛

And then there was the unexpected friendship. An Uber ride to the airport, spotting Kerry Washington at TSA, discovering we’re both fractional CFOs...😂 Kemba Howell, CMA, I think it’s safe to say we’re bonded for life!

Finally, to Celeste, my sister in Islam. Seeing another hijabi in the program who was fasting during orientation reminded me that I never have to choose between my faith and my ambitions. Your presence inspired me more than you know. 🤍

Thank you to the NYU Stern School of Business faculty, the JumpStart Inc. team, Goldman Sachs, and everyone who made this experience possible.

The journey isn’t over, but we’re taking a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come. 🥳🎉🙌🏾

Well done, ladies. I’m so grateful our paths crossed. ❤️

I miss typos, subject/verb disagreements, inconsistent use of tenses, and sentences that don’t make sense. I miss imperfections in writing.

DISCLAIMER: this is a random post, completely generated from the randomness in my brain.

The problem with everyone using AI, is that we all sound the same now. Every post is carefully curated with a beginning, middle, end, a hook, a call to action (CTA), maticulously placed emojis and perfectly selected hashtags.

From an accounting perspective, more and more fintech solutions are popping up and it’s exciting, but also scary. Originally the goal was to replace the mundane, repetitive parts of our work to allow for more strategic thinking, but there are some employees who actually like that part of the work - who thrive in repeated processes that require an insanely high attention to detail.

The work world is shifting, and so is the foundation, the entry level, the part of our jobs that built long lasting soft skills that serve us well into our careers. And yet, there’s something beautiful about developing critical thinking and problem solving skills sooner in our careers.

So which side am I on? 🤔 The jury is still out. I embrace AI wholeheartedly, but I reject certain aspects of it. Primary the parts that attempt to replace human existence and has us all sounding the same (like iRobot). For example, I’m 100% not on board with AI-generated music.

This entire post is random and there’s really no point to it other than to flex my brain muscles 💪🏾 and keep them active. If you don’t use it, you lose it, right? 😏

P.S. I personally use AI for posting so I’m talking to and about myself too!

🍯 Baking with Bee: Budgeting Biscuits 🍯

What do biscuits have to do with saving money?

More than you might think. In this episode, I use a simple homemade biscuit recipe to illustrate a powerful budgeting lesson: small, consistent ingredients create something bigger over time. The same is true for savings.

Recipe:
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 Tbsp baking powder
• 1 Tbsp sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• 6 Tbsp cold unsalted butter
• ¾ cup milk (I add a little extra milk as needed)
• Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Based on the Sugar Spun Run recipe.

What's one small habit that's helping you build your savings right now? Let me know below! 👇
