🇺🇸 SRS vs. the “10% Bump” on FERS — What’s the Difference?
If you’re a FERS employee planning for retirement, you may have heard these terms before—but they serve very different purposes.
💰 SPECIAL RETIREMENT SUPPLEMENT (SRS)
The SRS is designed to help bridge the gap between an eligible FERS employee’s retirement and age 62, when Social Security can begin.
Think of it as a temporary source of income that may help replace part of the Social Security benefit you’re not receiving yet.
📈 THE 1.1% FERS MULTIPLIER
Some FERS employees who retire at age 62 or older with at least 20 years of service may qualify for a 1.1% multiplier instead of the standard 1.0%.
That may sound like a small difference—but over the course of retirement, it can make a meaningful difference in your FERS annuity.
So which one is better?
They aren't really an “either/or” decision.
The SRS can provide temporary income before 62.
The 1.1% multiplier can increase your lifetime FERS annuity.
Your age, years of service, retirement date, High-3 salary, and eligibility all matter when determining which retirement strategy makes the most sense for you.
Your federal retirement benefits are too valuable to guess your way through.
Before you choose a retirement date, make sure you understand what you're gaining—and what you may be giving up. ❤️
Give me a call today, at 501-655-6279 and lets discuss your options.

❤️ What would it mean to know that part of your income could last for the rest of your life?
After spending decades working, saving, and planning for retirement, one of the biggest fears can be:
“What if I outlive my money?”
Retirement should be about more than watching your account balance and hoping it lasts.
It should be about having confidence that you can pay the bills, enjoy your time with family, take the trips you've dreamed about, and live the life you've worked so hard to build.
That’s where guaranteed lifetime income can play an important role in a retirement strategy.
Depending on the product and your individual situation, certain income strategies may provide a stream of income designed to continue for your lifetime—helping create a foundation of financial confidence.
🏡 Pay the bills
💊 Cover everyday expenses
✈️ Enjoy the things you've worked for
❤️ Spend more time with the people who matter most
You can't predict how long you'll live.
But you can plan for your income to last.
Your retirement shouldn't be about wondering if your money will make it to the end. It should be about making sure your money is there for the life you want to live.
Plan for tomorrow.
Protect your income. Protect your peace of mind. ❤️

New OPM Reduction in Force (RIF) rules take effect today, shifting federal job retention priorities to favor recent employee performance over tenure, seniority, and veteran status when deciding who stays or goes during a RIF.
Key Changes to RIF Rules
Performance Priority: Recent performance ratings now carry more weight than total length of service or seniority.
Veterans' Preference: Traditional protections tied to veterans' preference and tenure play a reduced role in retention standing.
Probationary Status: Employees in an initial probationary period are excluded from RIF competition entirely.
New Appeals Process
OPM Replaces MSPB: OPM takes over as the administrative forum for RIF appeals, replacing the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB).
Record-Based Reviews: Appeals rely strictly on the administrative record created during the agency's RIF process.
Early Documentation: Preserving evidence and documenting performance early is now critical for any challenged separation or furlough.

⏰ What happens to all those sick-leave hours you’ve worked so hard to save?
You may have accumulated hundreds—even thousands—of hours of unused sick leave throughout your federal career.
You might think, “I never used it, so I guess I just lose it when I retire.”
Not necessarily. ❤️
For eligible federal employees, unused sick leave can be converted into additional credit toward your retirement calculation.
That means those hours you saved over the years could potentially help increase your retirement benefit.
Think about it…
Every time you went to work when you weren't feeling your best.
Every sick day you saved.
Every hour you chose not to use.
Those hours may be worth more than you realize.
📋 Sick leave conversion is just one piece of your overall federal retirement picture.
Before you retire, make sure you understand how your unused sick leave could affect your benefit.
You worked for those hours. Don't overlook what they could mean for your retirement. 🇺🇸❤️

Are you a federal employee covered under FERS? 🇺🇸
Your retirement is more than just one benefit—it’s a combination of important pieces that work together to help support your future.
Under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), your retirement may include:
🏛️ A FERS Basic Annuity – A monthly pension based on your years of service and salary.
💰 Your TSP – The savings you've built throughout your career, including agency contributions and potential matching.
📋 Social Security – Another important piece of your overall retirement income.
Understanding how these pieces work together is just as important as knowing they exist.
You've worked years to earn your federal benefits. Don't wait until you're close to retirement to start understanding what they could mean for your future.
The more prepared you are today, the more confident you can feel about tomorrow. ❤️

You worked too hard for your retirement to leave it completely at the mercy of the market. 📉❤️
After years of working, saving, and sacrificing, watching your retirement account drop because of a market downturn can be scary. The closer you get to retirement, the less time you may have to recover from unexpected losses.
That’s why protecting your money from market risk should be an important part of your retirement plan.
This doesn’t necessarily mean keeping all of your money out of the market—it means understanding your risk and creating a strategy that helps protect the money you can't afford to lose.
Because retirement should be about enjoying the life you worked so hard for… not worrying every time the market goes down.
You’ve spent a lifetime building your future. Let’s help protect it. ❤️
And I am the professional that can help you do that, give me Malissa Mcnanna a call today at (501)-655-6279 or send me a message right here on Facebook!!!

🇺🇸 Did You Serve in the Military? Your Service Could Count Toward Your Federal Retirement.
Many federal employees don't realize they may be able to receive retirement credit for their active-duty military service by making a military service deposit, often called a military buyback.
For eligible employees, buying back military time may:
✅ Increase your total years of creditable federal service
✅ Potentially boost your FERS retirement annuity
✅ Help maximize the retirement benefits you've earned through both military and civilian service
Before making a decision, consider:
• How much military service you have
• The cost of the military deposit
• How it may affect your future retirement benefits
• Whether purchasing your military time aligns with your retirement goals
Military buyback isn't the right choice for everyone, but understanding your options can help you make an informed decision before retirement.
📞 Contact Malissa McNanna today to learn how military service may fit into your federal retirement plan.
