As the year comes to a close, the timing of your financial decisions can make a difference in your tax situation. But are you making those decisions strategically?

For therapists and private practice owners, knowing when to receive income, pay business expenses, contribute to retirement accounts, or adjust payroll can affect your year-end tax picture.

This week, we're breaking down key year-end timing strategies and what to consider before December 31.

Join us live as we cover:
โœ… How timing your income may affect your taxable income
โœ… When paying business expenses before year-end makes sense
โœ… Retirement contribution opportunities and important deadlines
โœ… Payroll adjustments to review before the year ends

๐Ÿ“ข Tax It Easy: How Much Should You Set Aside for Taxes? ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Running your own private practice means managing your income AND planning for taxes. But how much should you actually be saving?

If you're just starting out, the 30% rule can be a helpful starting point. However, your ideal tax savings amount depends on your unique financial situation.

In this video, we'll cover:
โœ… Why setting aside 30% of your income can be a good starting point
โœ… How to keep your tax savings separate from business funds
โœ… Why the 30% rule isn't a long-term solution
โœ… How annual income projections help you estimate taxes more accurately
โœ… When to work with a tax professional to adjust your strategy

The goal isn't just to save for taxes. It's to set aside the right amount so you're better prepared when payments are due.

๐Ÿ“ข Charitable Planning That Actually Changes the Tax Result ๐ŸŽฅ

Many therapists and private practice owners give back to causes they care about, whether it's mental health organizations, local charities, churches, or community programs.

But did you know that two people can donate the same amount and receive very different tax benefits?

With new charitable deduction rules taking effect in 2026, understanding when to give, what to donate, and how charitable contributions fit into your overall tax strategy can make a difference.

In this session, we'll cover:
โœ… How charitable deductions work and what they actually save you in taxes
โœ… New 2026 charitable giving rules for taxpayers who itemize or take the standard deduction
โœ… How bunching multiple years of donations may help maximize deductions
โœ… The potential tax advantages of donating appreciated stocks instead of cash
โœ… How donor-advised funds work for long-term charitable planning
โœ… Common charitable giving mistakes that could cost you valuable deductions

Charitable giving should always start with supporting causes that matter to you. With the right planning, you may also be able to make better use of the available tax benefits.

This is especially helpful for therapists, private practice owners, and small business owners who want to give back while making informed financial and tax decisions.

๐Ÿ“ข Are You Tracking Your Business Miles? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ“

For 2026, there's an extra detail business owners need to know: the IRS business mileage rate changed midyear.

It's 72.5ยข per mile for January through June and 76ยข per mile for July through December.
But the rate is only part of the equation. You still need to establish that the driving was business-related and maintain adequate records.

๐Ÿ“ข Charitable Planning That Actually Changes the Tax Result ๐Ÿ’ฐโค๏ธ

Giving to a cause you care about can make a meaningful difference. But did you know that how and when you make charitable contributions can also affect your taxes?

For therapists and private practice owners, charitable giving isn't always as simple as making a donation and claiming a deduction. The timing, type of contribution, and your overall tax situation can all influence the potential tax benefits.

This week, we're breaking down charitable giving strategies and what to consider when incorporating them into your tax planning.

Join us live as we cover:

โœ… Why not every charitable contribution results in the same tax benefit
โœ… How bunching donations into one tax year may affect your deductions
โœ… What donor-advised funds are and how they work
โœ… Why donating appreciated assets may offer advantages over donating cash
โœ… How to align charitable giving with your broader tax strategy

The goal isn't to give more just to get a deduction. It's to make your charitable contributions count for the causes you support while understanding the potential tax implications.

๐Ÿ’ป TAX IT EASY: Is Trading Services Taxable?

Trading services instead of exchanging money? The IRS may still consider that taxable income!

Here's what you should know about bartering:
โœ… Trading services can be a legitimate way of doing business
โœ… The IRS generally considers the fair market value of services received as taxable income
โœ… You may owe taxes even if no money changes hands
โœ… Keeping records of the value of services exchanged is important
โœ… For therapists, professional ethics should also be considered before entering into a barter arrangement

Bottom line? Just because you didn't get paid in cash doesn't mean the transaction is tax-free. If you're exchanging services, make sure you're tracking their value and reporting the income properly.

Just when you think youโ€™ve finally caught up with the latest tax rulesโ€ฆ here comes another update. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

Tax laws really do have a way of keeping us CPAs on our toes!

But for therapists and private practice owners, these changes can affect everything from business deductions to tax planning opportunities.

Thatโ€™s why staying informed matters. What worked for your practice last year may not necessarily be the best approach this year.

The good news? Keeping up with the tax laws is our job, so you can focus on yours.

๐ŸŒฟ Honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day

Today, we recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities across the United States.

It's also an opportunity to reflect on their resilience, acknowledge the challenges they have faced, and recognize the important role Indigenous communities continue to play in shaping our society.

May we continue to listen, learn, and honor the voices, stories, and traditions of Indigenous peoples, not just today, but throughout the year.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day from Later CPA & Associates! ๐ŸŒฟ
