Pop quiz! ✏️

If we asked you right now for your business's revenue, profit, and cash flow, could you tell us?

(And it’s completely normal if the answer is "Uhhh...give me a minute.")

These three numbers can tell very different stories about your business. Revenue shows what's coming in. Profit helps you understand what remains after expenses. Cash flow gives you a clearer picture of the money actually moving through the business.

When you regularly review all three, you have better information for decisions about spending, hiring, growth, taxes, and what's coming next.

That's what Financial Planning Month is really about: not just having numbers, but knowing what to do with them.

A few of us were fortunate to meet some future business leaders from North Greenville University at their Meet the Firms night this fall. We love the opportunity to make professional connections, discuss career paths, and showcase the great work we're doing here at Stokes & Company!

We were also glad to join our friends at the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants for the evening and help represent the CPA profession alongside them. It’s always a pleasure connecting with the next generation of accounting professionals!

Thank you to North Greenville University for organizing a great event, and thanks to all the Trailblazers who stopped by to talk with us!

What do you call a gathering of Terriers? Technically, it’s called a Terror, but this fall they gathered at the Meet the Firms event on Wofford’s campus to connect with local firms like Stokes!

We enjoyed talking to all the Wofford College students who stopped by our booth. The future looks bright for these accounting, business, and finance students!

October is National Financial Planning Month, and it's a good reminder that your business finances deserve a checkup, too. 📊
Before we get too close to year-end, take a few minutes to ask:

✓ How is revenue looking year-to-date?
✓ Where are we spending more (or less) than expected?
✓ How healthy is our cash flow?
✓ Are there tax considerations we should address before December 31?
✓ What financial goal do we want to accomplish next?

Good financial planning isn't just about knowing where your business has been. It's about using those numbers to decide where you want to go next.

When you hear the words "financial planning," where does your mind go?

Retirement? Investments? Personal savings?

Those are certainly part of the conversation. But financial planning matters for businesses, too.

For a business owner, good financial planning starts with understanding what's happening within the business today and using that information to make better-informed decisions about tomorrow.

Can we afford to add another employee?
Is this the right time to purchase new equipment?
Are expenses growing faster than revenue?
Do we have enough cash available for what's ahead?
Are there tax considerations we should be discussing before year-end?

These aren't questions that should only come up when there's a problem. Accurate bookkeeping, timely financial reporting, and proactive conversations with your accounting team can give you greater visibility into your business throughout the year.

October is National Financial Planning Month, making it a good time to ask a simple question:

Do you have the financial information you need to make your next business decision?

Great conversations, new connections, and plenty of future talent! 🎓

Our team had the opportunity to connect with Furman University students at the Meet the Firms event earlier this fall! We shared insights about professional accounting practices and learned more about the talented students preparing to take the next step in their careers.

Thank you to Furman University for bringing students and accounting professionals together for a great evening of conversations and connections. We loved getting to know everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello! 💼
