I used to cringe when it was time to review my finances, which I’ve learned is a common feeling.
Ngl, sometimes I think people should cringe. Hard. 🌚
But the thing was, it didn’t really matter what I had spent money on. Seeing I had spent anything meant feeling like I had done something wrong.
I should spend less, I thought.
And to be clear: occasionally that was the correct conclusion.
Overspending does exist. 💸
So this is not an “all spending is good” message.
But it is a “saving everything and spending nothing is so not the goal” message.
One of the most helpful money shifts for me was this:
🗝️ I only pay for things I want. 🗝️
My mortgage is a choice. I want to live in this house.
My payroll is a choice. I want a business that doesn’t require me to do every piece of the work myself.
My car repairs are a choice. I like having the freedom to drive places.
My groceries are a choice. The fact that I don’t buy the absolute cheapest food available is also a choice. I want to eat specific things.
My nails are a choice. I like how I feel with my nails done.
When I remember this, an expense report stops looking like a list of money I failed to save.
It starts to feel like a gratitude list.
Look at all the money I received.
And look at all the things I wanted, chose, and got to have.
Thank you. 🖤
