Since the 1950s, the concept of risk management in an investment portfolio has largely been based upon a single factor - diversification. While I believe that diversification is an important part of effective risk management, I don't thi

nk that diversification alone is adequate in the more evolved investment environment of today's world. Any type of static ("set it and forget it" model) approach to portfolio management depends upon a set of less challenged assumptions. For example, the theory behind diversification is when some asset classes are falling, others will be gaining. My proprietary portfolio management process is designed to monitor markets throughout each trading day in search of both risks and potential opportunities that may impact my clients' portfolio. I hold all assumptions to be suspect, mine as well as those of others, so I question and re-assess them frequently, and my recommendations are driven by a desire for results rather than by maintaining the status quo. I believe that long term success comes from a series of incremental improvements rather than from a single lucky break, so I am constantly on the lookout for any way to improve your odds of reaching your long-term goals.
