Meet the newest member of Lifeworks Advisors — Alex Chang!

As a Bay Area native, Alex has spent nearly a decade helping clients grow long-term wealth and build real confidence in their financial lives, and we're glad he's here. In his work with tech professionals, engineers, medical workers, and small business owners, he understands what their financial lives actually look like, and he shows up with the planning depth to match.

Alex is a USC Economics graduate, entrepreneur, and cofounder of a growing night market in the Bay Area. He also is co-owner of a boba shop in San Francisco, blending business, culture, and connection beyond finance. He has a knack for seeing where business, culture, and people intersect, and that instinct carries right into the work he does with clients.

When he's not at the office, you'll find him on the golf course, in the kitchen, or out walking his three dogs through the city.

We’re thrilled to have him on board. Welcome to the team, Alex.

Most people who inherit an IRA think they have 10 years to figure it out. They're right about the timeline. They're wrong about the urgency.

Under the SECURE Act of 2019, non-spouse beneficiaries generally must fully distribute inherited IRAs within 10 years. Wait until year 10 to take it all — and that entire balance lands on your tax return as ordinary income. In a single year.

The better approach is to spread distributions across all 10 years and realign the investments inside the account to match how and when you'll need to withdraw.

If you've recently inherited an IRA and haven't reviewed your distribution strategy, that's worth a conversation.

Most people who inherit an IRA from a parent think they have 10 years to figure it out.

They're right about the timeline. They're wrong about the urgency.

Take a listen.

Most people overestimate how much they need to retire.

Not because they're wrong about their expenses, but because they're using the wrong starting point.

When your plan is built around what you'll actually spend, what Social Security covers, and what you actually want your retirement to look like, the number often surprises people.

Clients who go through Lifeworks' Life-Driven Planning™ process frequently discover they're closer to financial independence than they thought.

That's worth knowing.

Most people think financial planning means picking investments. We think about it differently.

A Lifeworks plan starts with your life — what you want it to look like, what you value, where you're headed. The investments come later. They're one piece of a much bigger picture that most advisors never get around to building with you.

If your plan doesn't cover your taxes, your income, your estate, and your goals — not just your portfolio — that gap is worth closing.

A free 30-minute conversation with a Lifeworks advisor is a good place to start.

The five years before retirement can be the most financially consequential of your life. The decisions you make in this window will shape your income for the next 30 years.

Here's your checklist - take a listen!

An investment advisor manages your portfolio, calls before trades, sends market commentary, and reviews your allocation. That's the job.

A financial planner asks different questions. When should you take Social Security, and what does a two-year difference in timing actually cost you over your lifetime? Is Medicare supplemental coverage worth it for your specific situation? What happens to your accounts if you or your spouse passes unexpectedly?

One just manages your money. The other helps you manage your life (and your money).
If your advisor has never brought up any of that, it's worth asking what you're actually paying for.

We have those conversations every week. At Lifeworks, we believe it’s irresponsible to manage investments before planning the life those investments need to fund. If that's what you're looking for, we'd be glad to talk.

Your investment advisor calls before every trade.

Who calls about when to take Social Security?

Who calls about Medicare timing?

Who calls about your estate when something changes?

If you can't answer that, you don't have a financial planner; you have a portfolio manager.

Welcome Aaron Williams to Lifeworks Advisors!

Aaron is a Licensed Investment Advisor with 20+ years of experience helping individuals, families, and business owners bring clarity and confidence to their financial lives. He helps clients make thoughtful decisions around retirement, investments, and long-term planning — without making the process feel overwhelming or overly complicated.

Known for a practical, personal, and relationship-driven approach, Aaron believes great financial planning starts with understanding what matters most to each client.

Before joining Lifeworks, Aaron spent more than two decades building and leading his own advisory practice. While successful, he recognized that clients increasingly needed a more integrated approach to financial planning—one that brought together investment management, tax planning, estate considerations, and ongoing guidance under a single coordinated team.

That search led him to Lifeworks. Drawn to the firm's planning-first philosophy, subscription-based model, and collaborative team approach, Aaron found a partner that shared his commitment to delivering comprehensive, client-centered advice. Today, he leverages the full breadth of the Lifeworks platform to help clients navigate complex financial decisions with greater confidence and support.

Based just outside Austin, Texas, Aaron serves clients nationwide through a combination of virtual and in-person meetings.
Outside the office, Aaron enjoys traveling, playing golf, and spending time with his wife, Suzanne, and their four children.

His mission is simple: help people feel organized, confident, and prepared to make the most of whatever comes next.

Most people research a financial advisor's credentials, experience, and referrals.

Very few know these three searches exist, and none of them require an account, a phone call, or tipping off the advisor you're checking.

All public. All free. All available before you sign anything.

Save this for when you need it.
