Stimulus Question: The IRS "Get My Payment" system keeps giving me, "Status not available." I received a paper check for my IRS refund for the last two years (2018 and 2019). When will I get my stimulus check?
That was a question we received yesterday. Turns out the answer is not the most straightforward or the easiest to hear.
Ideally, you'd go to: The IRS Get My Payment page, click on "Get My Payment," and you'd be able to input your direct deposit information.
In this situation, however, the taxpayer went through the process received the message "Status Not Available" and wasn't taken to the page to input direct deposit information.
On the IRS website, this is what the IRS has to say about it:
https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-statement-on-get-my-payment-application-status-not-available
In situations where payment status is not available, the app will respond with “Status Not Available”. The IRS reminds users you may receive this message for one of the following reasons:
• If you are not eligible for a payment (see IRS.gov on who is eligible and who is not eligible)
• If you are required to file a tax return and have not filed in tax year 2018 or 2019.
• If you recently filed your return or provided information through Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info on IRS.gov. Your payment status will be updated when processing is completed.
• If you are a SSA or RRB Form 1099 recipient, SSI or VA benefit recipient – the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment; your information is not available in this app yet.
Summary, you can keep on trying to enter your direct deposit information daily. If that doesn't work, you will most likely have to wait with the other millions of Americans to get your paper check in the mail this fall.
However, even with being given a crazily huge task, the IRS is bit by bit taking on different parts of the problem, and smoothing out the process a bit more almost daily, so keep checking back!

You or someone you know hasn't filed taxes in the last 2 years? That would be for the years: 2018 or 2019 taxes. If the IRS doesn't have your direct deposit information from filing taxes in the last two tax years, there's a chance you might be waiting until the fall to get your stimulus check.
Want to make sure that doesn't happen? The IRS has created a website where you can go in and input your direct deposit information easily. Visit here to give the IRS the info they need:
https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here
and tap the blue button: "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here"
This will help you get your stimulus check into your bank account sooner than later.
