A ransomware attack doesn't just lock a server. It locks up utility payments, permits and the records your residents count on.

When a cyberattack hits local government, the fallout reaches residents fast. Utility payments stall. Permits stop moving. Records go dark.

In Florida, the stakes are even higher. State law bars counties and municipalities from paying a ransom, which means recovery depends entirely on preparation, not negotiation.

The good news: most of what protects your community doesn't require new software. It starts with knowing which services can't stop, testing your backups before you need them and training staff to spot the email that starts it all.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a good time to put that planning on the agenda. We help local governments protect the services, data and budgets their communities depend on.

MOORE ON MANUFACTURING TODAY, 10/6: When Your Best Customer Becomes a Concentration Risk

Your biggest customer might also be your biggest risk.

Landing a large account is exciting. It can bring growth, better overhead absorption and room to invest. But as that customer grows into a bigger share of your revenue, your business can start depending on them before you even notice.

In today’s Moore on Manufacturing, Mike Sibley and Kevin Golden explain how to tell when a great customer has become a concentration risk. They share why lenders and buyers start paying attention once a single customer passes about 10% of revenue, and why you should track contribution margin and cash flow by customer, not just sales. They also talk through what to do when a big customer asks for lower prices or 60- to 90-day payment terms, and how to plan for capacity, working capital and a worst-case scenario if that customer walks away.
Thinking about selling in the next few years? You’ll want to hear why heavy concentration can lead buyers to discount your price.

Budget season brings new rules every year. Knowing which ones actually affect your office is the hard part.

Lorrie Brinson, CPA, CGFO, Manager of our Governmental Advisory Group, is speaking at the Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC) Fall Academy on Wednesday, October 7. Her session, "What's New in Budgeting & Reporting: What Clerks Need to Know & Why It Matters," breaks down recent legislative changes, new financial reporting expectations, and the deadlines local governments can't afford to miss.

She'll be joined by Sarah Campbell, ICMA-CM, City Manager of the City of Fernandina Beach, for a conversation grounded in what clerks are actually facing day to day: budget transparency, compliance, and the decisions that keep both in check.

If you're attending the Fall Academy at the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa October 4-8, add this one to your schedule.

In this cutdown from our latest Moore on Manufacturing episode, Kevin Golden and Mike Sibley break down what happens when pipeline optimism does not match reality. An inflated win rate does not just skew your forecast, it leaves you sitting on excess inventory, carrying costs eating into cash, and a team hired for work that never showed up. They also share a truth many manufacturers know too well: too much inventory overall, but never enough of the one part you actually need.

Your foundation raised $75 million this year. Your financials show $48 million in contribution revenue. Before anyone assumes a number is wrong, here's what's actually happening.

Advancement and finance answer different questions. Funds Received tracks cash that came in the door. New Funds Committed tracks new pledges and gifts secured. Campaign totals track progress toward a multiyear goal. GAAP revenue follows accounting standards built for financial reporting, not fundraising performance.

A single $10 million pledge paid over 10 years can show up as $10 million in New Funds Committed, $1 million in Funds Received this year, and a different figure on the campaign dashboard. None of those numbers are wrong, they're measuring different things.

The real risk is not being able to explain the gap when a board member asks.

Our latest article shows how foundations can build a reporting bridge between advancement and finance, so every number tells a consistent story. Read on to see how the pieces fit together.

One week out.

Next Thursday, Dr. Chris Kuehl joins Mike Sibley for an hour on the economic conditions behind everyone's 2027 plan.

Chris is the economist for the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association and for five state CPA societies. He'll cover where rates, inflation, tariffs and trade policy are heading, and what that means for how you budget, how you price, and when you commit to capital spending.

What makes his read worth an hour is that it's grounded in what's actually happening on plant floors and in boardrooms, not just in the numbers.

Most 2027 plans are being built right now without that view. Here's your chance to get it.

Audit season doesn't have to feel like a fire drill.

In our latest episode of Nonprofit Accounting Explained, Corinne LaRoche breaks down what real audit readiness looks like, and it starts long before your auditor walks in the door.
She covers the questions every nonprofit finance team should ask: Are you fixing the same adjustments every year? Are your schedules built as you go, or scrambled together at the last minute? Is audit prep stretching your staff too thin?

Corinne walks through practical steps you can start today, from building a monthly checklist to knowing when outsourced support makes sense.

A clean audit is great. A process your team can actually sustain is even better.
