An $8M business at a 15% margin earns $1.2M in profit. So why might the owner still struggle to build personal wealth?

Unplanned spending, excess cash sitting idle, and tax bills can consume profit before it ever reaches the owner.

A monthly distribution rule changes that:

1. Maintain an operating cash reserve.

2. Set aside taxes.

3. Reinvest a fixed share.

4. Move the rest into the owner's wealth plan.

That's 3Wealth: company wealth, personal wealth, and tax leverage, built month by month.

After your next close, ask: How much of this month's profit moved, and where?

Your team reviews the numbers every month. But do those meetings actually change anything?

The problem often comes down to accountability. Nobody leaves knowing exactly what to do next.

Try reserving the last five minutes for three questions:

What changes before next month?

1. Who's responsible?

2. When is it due?

3. Then open the next meeting by checking those commitments first.

One client went from disorganized financials to management that could actively drive business results. Visibility came first. Consistent action turned it into progress.

A good meeting ends with a plan, not just a discussion.

Your company already offers paid leave. But has anyone checked whether the program qualifies for a tax credit?

Section 45S changed for 2026. The credit is now permanent, and qualifying premiums paid for paid family and medical leave insurance can count toward it.

The credit ranges from 12.5% to 25%, depending on how the program is structured.

Your benefits may already be in place. The opportunity is knowing whether they qualify under the updated rules.

Ask your CPA before year-end:

“Does our 2026 paid leave program qualify for the Section 45S credit?”

Four AI tools. Plenty of insights. No decisions.

The problem might not be your tools. It might be what happens after they deliver an answer.

Businesses need three things to turn AI insights into results:

1. A short scorecard of key numbers

2. A monthly meeting to review them

3. A named person responsible for each number

There's one more requirement: accurate data. One client discovered a COGS miscalculation that had cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. AI reading those books could've confidently delivered the wrong answer.

Accurate numbers first. A system second. Tools third.

Try this: list your AI tools and write down the last decision each one helped you make.

An S-corp owner set her salary five years ago. Her business has since grown several times over, but her salary hasn't changed.

That one number affects three things:

1. Payroll taxes: Wages and distributions are taxed differently.

2. Retirement contributions: Many plans base contributions on W-2 wages.

3. QBI deduction: W-2 wages can affect the deduction at certain income levels.

The IRS also expects reasonable compensation for the work an owner actually performs.

There's no magic percentage. Review your role, profit, and salary with your CPA—and remember, 2026 wages must run through payroll by December 31.

Ask your CPA: “When was my salary last reviewed?”

Your team finishes the work on the 3rd. The invoice goes out on the 28th.

That's 25 days before the payment clock even starts.

Multiply that delay across every project, and you've got cash sitting with customers that could be funding payroll, hiring, or growth.

Three ways to fix it:

1. Invoice immediately when the work is done.

2. Set clear payment terms on every invoice.

3. Review receivables weekly and assign someone to follow up.

Your next step: pull your last five invoices. Compare the date the work finished with the date you billed.

The gap could be costing you cash.

Signing your tax return tells you what happened last year.

A projection helps you decide what happens next.

With 77 days left in 2026, start with three things:

1. Year-to-date profit: What do your books show through September?

2.Q4 forecast: What are you realistically expecting to earn?

3. Planned moves: What decisions could affect your taxes before December 31?

Put them together with your CPA and build a projection of what you'll owe.

Don't wait until April to find out where you landed.

Your next step: Ask your CPA to build your 2026 tax projection before November.

A client came to us earlier this year with an accounting team that had been outgrown by the business.

In under six months, we helped improve cash management, map profitability by revenue stream, renegotiate with lenders, and uncover a COGS miscalculation that had cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The lesson?

The numbers were wrong before they were bad.

If your cost of goods sold is miscalculated, your margins can be misleading—and you could be making decisions based on the wrong information.

Ask your bookkeeper:

“How is our COGS calculated, and when was it last reviewed?”

Some tasks stay on your list long after they stop mattering.

For U.S. companies, beneficial ownership reporting (BOI) is one of them. FinCEN ended the requirement for U.S. companies and U.S. persons on August 11, 2026. Foreign reporting companies still have filing obligations.

But one deadline still matters.

October 15: Extended 2025 individual returns and calendar-year C corporation returns are due. Disaster relief may change the deadline for some areas, so check your county.

Your next step? Ask your CPA:

“Is my return on track for Thursday, and do you still need anything from me?”

Clear the outdated tasks. Give your attention to what matters now.

You don't have to delete 16 projects to focus on your top three.

You just need to give the other 16 a date.

Take your project list and split it in two:

The Critical Few: The three priorities that can move profit or cash before December.

The Useful Many: Everything else, parked with a specific date to revisit.

Nothing gets forgotten. Nothing gets dismissed. It simply gets a place in line.

Before you wrap up today, pick your top three and give everything else a revisit date.

Focus works better when the rest of the list has a plan.
