Think bonds are always the "safe" part of your portfolio? History says otherwise.

Since 1928, 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds have had some real setbacks. The worst came recently: a 21.5% drop from 2020 to 2022, when inflation surged and the Fed raised rates faster than it had in 40 years.

Longer-term bonds were hit even harder. 20- to 30-year Treasuries are still down about 50% from their 2020 high.

Here's the takeaway: when interest rates rise, bond prices fall. How much depends on what you own and how long it takes to mature.

Markets Generally closed higher and US treasuries soared to yields not seen since 2007. Some may see this as a sign we are over concentrated in equities but it could simply be a reaction to the Fed rates increases and Mideast conflicts lingering.
