Peak migration season has arrived, and birds are already taking to the skies. Over the next few weeks, millions of birds will traverse Texas as they embark on their journey to the winter.

During their migration, these birds rely heavily on the night sky for navigation. However, artificial light from buildings and homes poses a significant challenge. It disrupts their natural navigation, diverting them from their intended path and increasing the likelihood of collisions with windows and structures.

Fort Worth residents and businesses can help by turning off or reducing unnecessary lights during the fall migration season. These small changes to nighttime lighting can make a difference for birds passing through our community.

Turn off or dim outdoor lights between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.Close blinds or curtains to reduce light shining through windows.Limit landscape lighting that illuminates trees, gardens and other areas where birds may rest.Use timers or motion sensors so outdoor lights are only on when needed.

You don't have to live or work downtown to participate. Reducing unnecessary light at night throughout Fort Worth can help migrating birds stay on course as they make their way through the city.

CFW: 9/11 25th Anniversary Memorial Event

On behalf of the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Fire Department, and the Fort Worth Police Department, you are cordially invited to join us as we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, during our Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, beginning at 7:15 a.m. at Fort Worth City Hall.

This ceremony is inclusive of all public safety agencies throughout the DFW area that are invited to attend with members of their department and vehicles that will line the street. This is the only memorial ceremony of this size in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex dedicated to honoring the events of September 11th. We extend this invitation to the public to come and observe this day through moments of silence, speakers, artifacts on display and more.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed. The events of September 11, 2001, left an indelible mark on America and on the public safety profession. We made a promise to Never Forget, and together we have the opportunity to honor that promise by standing united in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.

We sincerely hope you will join us as we pay tribute to the heroes, remember the fallen, support the survivors, and reaffirm the commitment that continues to define our service.

A once-empty grass lot behind the Best Maid Pickles warehouse is getting a fresh new purpose — and soon, it will become southeast Fort Worth's newest neighborhood park.

Earlier this summer, Fort Worth City Council approved $1.3 million for 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, named after the grinning girl featured on every Best Maid Pickles jar label. The new 0.7-acre park will bring more opportunities for families, neighbors and visitors to gather, play and enjoy the outdoors.

Fort Worth Park & Recreation and Councilmember Nettles invite the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of Smiley Park.

Planned features include playground equipment, outdoor exercise stations, a pickleball court, a climbing trellis, sidewalks, fencing and new trees, according to city documents.

Smiley Park is part of a larger effort to invest in the surrounding neighborhood. In 2019, the city selected the 0.56-square-mile area as its second Neighborhood Improvement Program target, directing funding toward projects such as litter cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, streetlight upgrades and the transformation of vacant lots into community spaces.

With Smiley Park, a simple vacant lot is set to become a welcoming place for play, connection and neighborhood pride — right in the heart of southeast Fort Worth.

The Texas Veterans Commission, through its Fund for Veterans' Assistance, awarded $7.7 million in grants to 28 veteran service organizations across the North Texas DFW region, August 11, 2026.

As part of this funding, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 $𝟲𝟰𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, supporting efforts to prevent homelessness and promote housing stability.

These funds will help provide 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀, including clinical counseling, rental and mortgage assistance, financial support, and other essential resources.

The check presentation was held at the historic courthouse in Waxahachie, Texas. TVC Commissioner Chuck Wright presented the check to Michelle Doonkeen, Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services overseeing the Community Services Division, and Ruby Rubio, Senior Human Services Specialist overseeing the Veteran Services Program within the Neighborhood Services Department.

Now that the kids are back in school, our Fort Worth pools at Forest Park Pool and Marine Park Pools will have a modified weekend schedule. One City pool will be open each day.

Marine Park Pool will be open on Saturdays, while Forest Park Pool will be open on Sundays. Both pools will operate from noon to 6 p.m. Forest Park Pool will also be open on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Labor Day will be the final day of the 2026 pool season. Previously scheduled private rentals at both pools will be honored and will continue as planned. You can sign up with a group or join in on your own—everyone's welcome!

Early Bird Registration is open from August 1st to August 16th. Sign up early to snag your free “Love Where You Live” event T-shirt. After August 16th, T-shirts will be available while they last. Litter cleanup supplies will be available to all registered volunteers.

The City of Fort Worth is alerting permit applicants to a phishing scam involving fraudulent emails that appear to come from the City. These emails include fake invoices or payment requests and are designed to trick recipients into sending money to scammers.The City of Fort Worth will NEVER request payment by wire transfer. Before making any payment, customers should verify that the sender's email address ends with .gov and confirm all fees by logging into their Accela Citizen Access account

If you receive a suspicious payment request, DO NOT click any links, open attachments, or send payment. Instead, verify the request directly through your Accela Citizen Access account or contact the City of Fort Worth Development Services Department at 817-392-2222 to confirm whether the email is legitimate.
