Your accounting software only sees what you give it.
That forgotten credit card.
The account you stopped using.
The transfer you never explained.
Business expenses mixed with personal ones.
Automation can record transactions, but it cannot always recognize what is missing.
That is where a real review matters.
Clean books start with the full picture.

Most owners read a profitable year and feel safe. That feeling is coming from the wrong statement.
The day your books close, your profit resets to zero. Your debt does not.
What carries into next year sits somewhere else: the cash, the equipment, the loans. That is your balance sheet, and it never resets.
So a strong year tells you what happened. Your balance sheet tells you whether you are safe.
If your books aren’t telling you the truth, call now 800-382-1040.

A promised refund is one of tax preparation’s most common traps.
You sit down with a tax preparer, and before they have reviewed a single document, they tell you exactly what your refund will be.
Nobody can honestly make that promise.
There are forms. There are formulas. Every number depends on your specific situation.
Having one child and working a job does not tell anyone what you are owed. Your refund depends on your income, deductions, credits, and withholding, which is the money your paychecks have already sent to the IRS.
No one knows that number just by looking at you.
The best way to protect yourself is to understand the forms your return is built on.
Ask how your refund was calculated. Check your preparer’s credentials. Review every form before signing.
The forms determine the number, and the forms come after the meeting.
Read it before you sign.

What is the first question you ask a tax preparer?
07/27/2026
Q2 Form 941 is due July 31.
A second date exists. Deposit all of the quarter’s tax on time and in full, and you can file by August 10 instead. Miss one deposit and the 31st stands.
Nothing you do in July changes which one you get. April, May, and June already settled it.
The return covers the federal income tax you withheld those three months, plus both halves of Social Security and Medicare.
FUTA, the federal unemployment tax, runs on the same clock. If your liability for the quarter, plus anything carried forward, goes over $500, that deposit is due July 31 too. $500 or less carries into next quarter.
If a payroll service files the 941 for you, ask which of the two dates they are working toward.

Who checks the deposit record before your 941 goes out?
Not everyone giving tax advice is qualified to handle your taxes.
Before choosing a tax professional, check their credentials. Enrolled Agents and CPAs are licensed professionals with the training to navigate complex tax situations. A large following is not a credential.

Your tax preparer completed it. You signed it.
Your signature tells the IRS that you reviewed the return and believe the information is accurate.
Before signing, compare the return to your W-2s, 1099s, receipts, and other records. If something appears that you did not provide, ask why.
Read it. Question it. Never sign blindly.
