🖤 Foley Witches Ride is a fundraising event hosted by the Foley Society of Black Hats, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that gives to local organizations providing food, shelter, and financial assistance to women and children in Baldwin County.

👯‍♀️ The ride this Saturday is a great way to spend your evening. The parade is for women and girls, so bring your moms, sisters, aunts, nieces, cousins, and besties!

🥺 After a whole week of talking about payroll processes, deductions, benefits, onboarding, and all the little details, it is easy to forget what is sitting right in the middle of it...PEOPLE!

🤓 If a benefit provider explains something important on the phone, one of our first thoughts is usually...can you please send that to us in an email?

📨 We want the details in writing. Who pays the bill? Is the deduction pretax or post tax? Can the employee pay directly? Does the business have to collect the money first? Those little details can completely change how payroll and bookkeeping need to be handled.

📌 One simple way to keep sales tax from getting mixed in with your spending money is to move it into a separate bank account. The business still owns the bank account, but the money inside it already has a job.
⁣
🏦 As sales tax is collected, you can move that amount out of your main operating account and into the sales tax account. Then when the return is due, the cash is already set aside instead of competing with payroll, rent, supplies, or owner draws.
⁣
📢 This does NOT replace good bookkeeping. Sales Tax Payable should still be tracked correctly on the balance sheet in QuickBooks Online. The separate bank account is simply a cash management tool that can make it easier to avoid spending money that needs to be remitted.
⁣
💰 If sales tax due dates always seem to create a cash crunch, the problem may not be the tax itself. A separate account can help you build a better habit around money that was never meant to stay in the business.
