🧾 Are You Keeping Your Business Receipts?

Keeping track of your receipts might seem like a small task, but it can make a BIG difference when it comes to managing your business finances!

Here are a few reasons why you should keep those receipts:

âś… Tax Time: Receipts help document business expenses and support deductions you claim on your tax return.

âś… Accurate Bookkeeping: Having receipts makes it easier to categorize expenses correctly and keep your books accurate.

âś… Audit Protection: Receipts provide documentation to support your business expenses if questions come up.

âś… Know Your Numbers: Reviewing receipts helps you understand where your money is going and identify opportunities to save.

đź’ˇ A Few Tips:

1. Take a picture of your receipts as soon as you get them.
2. Use an app or digital folder to keep them organized.
3. Make sure the receipt shows the date, amount, vendor, and what you purchased.
4. Match receipts to the transactions in your accounting software.
5. Keep your receipts in a folder like in the picture. You can buy these for a few bucks at Walmart of Amazon and you can keep it in your vehicle or laptop bag.

Remember, a bank or credit card statement shows that you made a purchase, but it may not provide enough detail to substantiate the business expense on its own.

Don't wait until tax time to organize a year's worth of receipts! A little organization each month can save you time and headaches later.

Why It Can Be Good to Have a Separate Accountant and Tax Preparer

📊 Your accountant focuses on your business throughout the year.
They help keep your books accurate and up to date, reconcile your accounts, provide financial statements, and help you understand what your numbers are telling you.

🧾 Your tax preparer focuses on your tax return.
They take your financial information and use it to prepare your business and/or personal tax returns while helping you identify tax considerations.

🤝 Together, they can work as a team.
Your accountant keeps your financial records organized and tax-ready, while your tax preparer can focus on preparing your return. Good communication between the two can make tax season much smoother.

At CP Financial Services, I don't prepare tax returns, but I work with your tax professional to help make sure your books are accurate and ready for tax time.

When It Comes to Your Books, Communication Matters

When I first started my business, a CPA told me something that has always stuck with me:

“An accountant is only as good as the information they get from their client.”

And it's so true.

Accurate bookkeeping isn't just about entering transactions and reconciling accounts. Communication is a huge part of the process.

If something changes in your business, if you make a large purchase, open a new account, take out a loan, hire an employee, or simply have a question—your accountant or bookkeeper needs to know.

The better we communicate, the better we can understand what is happening in your business and provide you with accurate financial information.

At CP Financial Services, I believe good communication leads to good financials—and good financials lead to better business decisions.

Your numbers tell a story. Make sure your accountant has the information to tell the right story.

Do You Really Understand Your Financial Statements? 📊

Your financial statements tell the story of your business—but only if you know how to read them.

Here are the three reports every business owner should understand:

💰 Profit & Loss Statement – Shows whether your business is making money over a specific period.

🏦 Balance Sheet – Gives you a snapshot of what your business owns, owes, and what's left over (your equity).

💵 Cash Flow Statement – Tracks where your cash is coming from and where it's going, helping you avoid cash shortages.

Don't let these reports collect dust! Reviewing them regularly can help you make smarter decisions, spot potential issues early, and plan for growth with confidence.

Not sure what your numbers are telling you? That's where I can help. Let's turn your financial statements into a tool that helps your business succeed.

Ever feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day?

As a business owner, you're already wearing a dozen different hats. The last thing you want to do at the end of a long day is sort through receipts, reconcile bank accounts, or figure out why your books don't balance.

Here's the good news—you don't have to do it all yourself.

Hiring an accountant means you can spend less time stressing over the numbers and more time doing what you love: serving your customers and growing your business.

Imagine getting your evenings back, knowing your books are up to date, and having a clear picture of how your business is really doing.

That's not just a time saver—it's peace of mind.

If bookkeeping has been sitting on your to-do list for longer than you'd like to admit, let's chat. I'd love to help you take it off your plate so you can get back to running your business.
