Are you behind on your taxes?

An offer in compromise may be an option. The IRS may accept an offer if determines that collecting the full tax liability is unlikely. It may also find that collecting the full amount would create economic hardship or otherwise be unfair. In some cases, there may be a legitimate dispute regarding the correctness of the tax debt.

The IRS encourages you to explore other payment options before submitting a request for an offer in compromise. These options include installment agreements. The IRS also recommends using the Offer in Compromise Pre-Qualifier Tool. This tool can help you determine whether you meet the basic eligibility requirements. It can also help you estimate a preliminary offer amount.
