Think of an index like a scorecard. It tracks a specific group of investments so we can see how that group is performing.

You can't invest directly in an index, but you can invest in funds designed to track one—which is where ETFs often come in.

The next time you hear “the S&P 500 was up today,” you'll know exactly what they're talking about.

ETF doesn’t automatically mean diversified.

Some ETFs offer broad exposure, while others focus on a specific area of the market.

The important question is: Do you know what you’re actually exposed to?

What is an ETF?

ETFs can offer a simple way to invest in a collection of stocks, bonds, or other assets—all within one investment.

If you’re looking for diversification or want to understand how your investments fit together, an ETF may be worth discussing with your financial advisor.

Financial planning is more than picking investments. A complete plan considers your cash flow, how your assets are invested and withdrawn, the impact of taxes, and the goals you want your money to support.

Working with a financial advisor can help bring these pieces together into a coordinated strategy — including running projections to prepare for both expected and unexpected life events.

Every person’s financial picture is different, and understanding these four areas can help you make more informed decisions and build a plan aligned with your goals.

Finance can feel confusing… but it doesn’t have to be.

Understanding the words is the first step to understanding your money.

Simple. Clear. Empowering.

College may feel far away when they’re this little… but time is one of the greatest advantages you have.

A 529 plan can help families save for future education expenses, and the earlier you start, the more time your savings have to grow through the power of compounding.

Haven’t started yet? Don’t count yourself out. Starting today is still better than waiting, and even small contributions can create meaningful opportunities over time.

And it’s not just for parents—grandparents and loved ones can contribute too. A 529 plan may help with qualified education expenses like college, trade schools, apprenticeships, and other eligible education paths.

The gift of education can mean more than paying for school—it can give someone you love more flexibility to pursue their goals, whether that’s buying a home, starting a family, or chasing a dream.

And if the funds aren’t fully used for education, there may be other options, including the possibility of a Roth IRA rollover under current rules and limitations.

A 529 plan isn’t just about saving money. It’s about creating opportunities for the next generation.

Have you considered a 529 plan for a child or grandchild?

A 529 plan can be a valuable tool for education planning, whether you want to fund a portion or all of future education costs.

A financial advisor can help you determine the right contribution strategy while keeping your overall financial goals in mind.

There are more ways to use a 529 plan than you probably think…

With expanded uses and potential tax benefits, this account can be more flexible than it used to be.

The question is—are you using it the right way?

Last week on LinkedIn, we asked: What do you usually do when an investment is down?

Most answered: hold, sell, or wait it out.
But before making a move, it may help to ask:
- How does this position fit into my overall strategy right now?
- What is the tax impact of acting (or not acting)?
- Are there planning opportunities at lower values?

In some cases, down markets may create opportunities—like Roth conversions, where timing and valuation can impact tax outcomes, or offsetting gains in legacy holdings.

Not every strategy is right for every investor, but knowing what questions to ask can make a big difference.

Save this for the next time the market feels uncertain.
