🚒🚨 BIG NEWS FOR NEW YORK’S VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS & EMS WORKERS! 🚨🚒

💰 New York State is moving toward QUADRUPLING the Volunteer Firefighters’ and Ambulance Workers’ Tax Credit!

Legislation passed by both houses of the New York State Legislature would increase the refundable income tax credit beginning with the 2027 tax year!

🚨Proposed Tax Credit Increases:

✅ Individual Volunteers: $200 ➡️ $800

✅ Married Couples (If Both Qualify): $400 ➡️ $1,600

That’s an additional $600 per eligible volunteer!

📋 Who Qualifies?

* Active volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers
* New York State residents
* Volunteers who meet the full-year service requirements
* Individuals who do not claim a property tax exemption based on the same volunteer service

⚠️ Important Update: The legislation was delivered to the Governor on October 16, 2026, and is awaiting approval. The increased credit is not yet law.

🚨 IRS UPDATE: NEW PER DIEM RATES FOR 2026–2027! 🚨

✈️ Attention Employers, Business Owners & Employees Who Travel for Work!

The IRS has updated the federal per diem rates effective October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.

Per diem allowances help employers reimburse employees for business travel expenses without requiring receipts for every meal or incidental expense.

✅ Updated reimbursement rates for business travel

✅ Different rates depending on the travel destination

✅ Potential tax-free reimbursements when IRS requirements are met

✅ Important payroll and tax reporting considerations

📌 Remember: Per diem payments are not automatically tax-free. Employers must follow IRS substantiation rules, including documenting the business purpose, dates, and location of travel.

⏰ EXTENSION TAX DEADLINE REMINDER! ⏰

The October 15 tax deadline is quickly approaching!

If you filed an extension for your 2025 individual income tax return, your extended filing deadline is:

📅 October 15, 2026

An extension gave you additional time to file your return — not additional time to pay any tax that was due. If you still have a balance due, penalties and interest may continue to accrue.

If you haven’t provided your tax documents yet, now is the time! Please get your information to our office as soon as possible so we can work toward completing your return before the deadline.

Don’t wait until the last minute — October 15 will be here before you know it!
