🎁 WHAT REALLY COUNTS? Charitable Contributions Edition
"I donated it, so I can deduct it... right?" 🤔
Maybe. 😅
When it comes to charitable contributions, what really counts isn't just your generosity. It's where you gave and whether you can substantiate it.
Generally, deductible charitable contributions are made to qualified organizations and may require records such as receipts, bank statements, or written acknowledgments.
Some examples that may qualify:
✅ Cash donations to eligible charities
✅ Clothing or household items in good used condition or better
✅ Donations made by check, credit card, or online payment
✅ Certain out-of-pocket expenses while volunteering for a qualified charity
But not everything counts.
❌ Giving money directly to an individual or family in need
❌ The value of your time or volunteer services
❌ Political contributions
❌ Donating used items without keeping adequate records
What really counts?
Your good intentions matter, but so do the tax rules.
💬 Have you ever donated something and wondered whether it was tax deductible?
The IRS has a lot more to say about charitable contributions than I can fit into one Facebook post. Every situation is different, and the rules depend on your specific circumstances. If you're unsure whether your donation qualifies, schedule a consultation and let's discuss your situation.
The goal isn't to know every rule. The goal is knowing when it's time to ask questions.
