If you receive a corrected statement from a broker, employer or anyone else, please contact the office. If your return has already been submitted electronically, we will have to see if an amended return will be required. This amended return would be addressed after the tax season. If the return has not been submitted, we may be able to "re-do" the return for the change.

Estimated payments for 2023 are due starting April 18th of 2023. Please be sure you have discussed this with the office and if you need payment vouchers so we can get them to you timely. If you are not sure of the amount you intend to send, we can always give you a blank voucher and you can decide when you mail it. Besides sending a check as payment, both the IRS and MN Revenue have online payment systems. See our website for links.

Your tax return cannot be submitted electronically without our office having received the signed e-file authorization form. Please make sure this form has been sent back to the office via fax/scan/mail or dropped off in purpose. When we submit the return, you should receive an email confirmation. If you have returned the authorization form and not seen this email confirmation, please contact the office so we can ensure your return was timely submitted.

Filing an extension protects you against potential penalties, even if you do not send in any payment. Please contact the office so we can make sure your extension is filed timely and we have discussed the impact of sending or not sending a payment with the extension. This applies to both federal and state.

The best time to stop by the office to pick up a completed return or drop off information is from 9-5 Mondays through Fridays, and 10-1 on Saturdays. That is when the front desk is staffed and someone is here to assist you. If you intend to stop by for pick up after those hours, please call the office to let us know so we can make sure someone is here. If you are dropping off documents, we do have a locked mailbox outside our door for use when the office is not staffed.

Filing an extension has several benefits. It allows more time to ensure all necessary documents have been received. It ensures that all questions between you and the office have been resolved. It prevents additional penalties if the tax is paid after the April 15th due date. Lastly, it extends the time to submit corrections if an amended return is needed in the future. Please contact the office to ensure your return is properly extended.

It can sometimes be hard to get through to Andrew or Daniel during the peak of the tax season. Even if we don't answer our phone, please leave a message. We do check messages at all times. Also, while email can be a great way to communicate, the office sees a tremendous increase in email during the tax season. If you feel we have not responded timely, please feel free to call or re-send the email.

If you invested in "Publicly Traded Partnerships" you will receive a form K-1 from the investment. This form is required to prepare your tax return. Your investment advisor may be able to help you determine if you have these investments, and how to get forms K-1.

If you have the majority of your tax information ready, but are waiting for just one or two items, it is still best to get us your tax information now rather than wait longer for the rest of your information to arrive. This will help ensure either a timely filing or a proper extension.

If you acquired your health insurance via the federal exchange or MNsure, you should receive form 1095-A. You must include this form with the documents you give us to prepare your tax return. Failure to do so may result in notices from the IRS. Resolving these notices will incur fees.
