There has been substantial chatter about the Protect College Sports Act as it works its way through the early stages of the legislative process. How it ultimately develops, and whether it advances, remains to be seen.

How my brain processes this headline:
1. The bill was introduced by senators from Texas and Washington state.
2. The SEC and the Big Ten both oppose the bill.
3. The two largest public universities in Texas are members of the SEC.
4. The largest public university in Washington is in the Big Ten.

After recently attending a conference with a large group of sports law professionals, it’s clear there are a wide range of views on how college athletics should be structured going forward.

There’s still a lot to be worked through, and it will be interesting to see how this evolves from here. Definitely one to keep an eye on as the college sports landscape continues to take shape.

Proof positive I networked my tail off at the annual Sports Lawyers Association Conference. It was a fantastic event where I met a TON of amazing people working across the sports landscape. Looking forward to next year in San Diego!

My big takeaway: The NIL and revenue sharing world is still the Wild West. The last session I attended had three very high-level panelists in college sports and when asked for one word to describe what's going on they said: Dynamic, Complicated and Adaptability. Being nimble and able to adjust to a shifting environment will be key for young athletes coming into this world.

Grateful to all who shared their wisdom and I look forward to all the follow up conversations getting on the books.

I am crashing the party at the Sports Lawyers Association conference in Chicago this week. Not exactly sure what to expect from 1,000 lawyers in the same venue, but looking forward to a lot of networking and hearing oral arguments for which sports and universities reign supreme.
