You know you need a will.

Maybe a trust.

Powers of attorney.

Updated beneficiaries.

You’ve known for years.

But somehow...

You keep putting it off.

You tell yourself:

“I’ll do it when things settle down.”

“When the kids are older.”

“When I have more time.”

But maybe the real problem isn’t the paperwork.

It’s what the paperwork forces you to think about.

Your death.

Your family.

Your money.

What happens if you can’t make decisions for yourself.

That’s uncomfortable.

So you avoid it.

And avoidance feels good for a moment.

Until you remember:

It’s still not done.

The good news?

You don’t have to finish everything today.

You just need to start.

If estate planning has been sitting on your to-do list for years, you’re not alone.

Sometimes we’re not avoiding the documents.

We’re avoiding the emotions that come with making them.

The first step doesn’t have to be complicated.

Giving generously doesn’t mean you have to ignore the tax side of the decision.

Sometimes the smartest way to give isn’t giving more.

It’s giving differently.

If you have highly appreciated investments and already plan to give, the asset you donate may matter just as much as the amount.

I break down this strategy and other ways to make charitable giving more intentional in my latest blog.

December makes everything feel urgent.

But tax planning works best when you still have time to think.

By August, you have enough information to see where your income may be heading while still having months to adjust your strategy.

That can mean more time to explore Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, retirement contributions, charitable giving, and other planning opportunities.

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to review your tax plan, this is your reminder that earlier is better.

Q4 feels like the natural time to think about taxes.

But by then, some of your best opportunities may already be limited.

A mid-year tax plan gives you something December can’t:

time.

Time to run the numbers.

Time to coordinate with your CPA.

Time to make thoughtful decisions.

Time to actually act on them.

If you haven’t reviewed your tax strategy yet, now is the time to start.

You get a request.

You write a check.

You move on.

Then another request arrives.

And another.

Over time, your giving can become reactive instead of intentional.

You may not know how much you’re giving each year.

You may not know whether your giving reflects your values.

And you may be missing opportunities to use your investments, retirement accounts, or estate plan more effectively.

A charitable giving strategy changes that.

It gives your generosity a structure.

Where do you want your money to go?

How much do you want to give?

When does it make sense to give?

And which assets make the most sense to use?

If you’re a high-income professional or business owner and charitable giving is already part of your financial life, let’s look at how it can fit into your broader financial and estate plan. Book a planning conversation to get started.

When people think about retirement...

They usually think about a 401(k).

Or a Roth IRA.

Very few people think about their HSA.

And that’s a mistake.

Because your HSA is the only account that gives you a tax break when you contribute...

Tax-free growth...

And tax-free withdrawals for qualified medical expenses.

Most people use it like a debit card.

But it can be so much more than that.

Used strategically, it can become one of the most powerful tools in your retirement plan.

I break down several overlooked HSA strategies in my latest blog.

Read it through the link in my bio.

When I mention HSAs, most people immediately think:

“That’s for medical expenses.”

They’re right.

But they’re also stopping there.

The interesting part isn’t that an HSA helps pay today’s healthcare costs.

It’s that, when used intentionally, it can support tomorrow’s retirement goals too.

The challenge isn’t access.

It’s awareness.

Because if nobody explains how these accounts fit into a broader financial strategy, it’s easy to treat them like a checking account instead of a long-term planning tool.

Good financial planning isn’t about collecting more accounts.

It’s about understanding how each one contributes to the bigger picture.

That’s exactly what I explore in my latest blog.

If you’d like to learn more about the strategies many high earners overlook, give it a read.

I’ve had conversations with successful professionals who were earning more than they ever imagined.

Yet they still felt behind because their financial habits hadn’t evolved with their lives.

This happens more often than people realize.

The systems that worked when you were making $150,000 may not be the systems that serve you at $500,000.

Your priorities change.

Your responsibilities change.

Your opportunities change.

Your financial structure should change too.

That’s why planning isn’t something you do once.

It’s something you revisit as your life evolves.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s alignment.

Alignment between your values...

Your habits...

And the future you’re trying to build.

If you’re wondering whether your financial plan still reflects the life you’re living today, let’s have that conversation.

Together, we’ll evaluate where you are today, identify what’s changed, and build a strategy that’s aligned with where you want to go next.
