For years, retirement planning tends to revolve around one question: Will I have enough? Enough saved. Enough income. Enough investment growth. Enough to handle healthcare, taxes, travel, and whatever else life may bring. It is an...

Here's something we've learned after years of doing this. The meeting is rarely where the decision gets made.
People nod along, ask good questions, leave with a clear plan in hand. Then they get in the car, and that's when it actually starts to sink in. ๐
Sometimes it happens at the kitchen table that night. Sometimes it's a vacation site left open on a laptop for three days before anyone clicks "book." Sometimes it's finally saying "maybe one more year" out loud for the first time.
We plan for that. A good financial plan should still make sense in that moment, not just in the room where it was presented.

A retirement plan can say ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ on paper, and you can still feel stuck. ๐ค
We see it more than people expect. The projections check out. The plan holds up in the room. And the client still doesn't move on it right away.
Sometimes it's fear. Sometimes it's guilt. Sometimes it's simply not knowing who you'll be on the other side of the decision.
If you've ever looked at a plan that says you're ready and still felt unsure, you're not doing anything wrong. You're doing something human. This month, we're going to dig into why.

Not just tuition. Not just an inheritance someday. Not just financial support along the way, as important as all of that is.
Since Carmen was seven, she and Casey have had a standing date, once a month, just the two of them. She always picked the plan, where they ate, what she wanted for dessert. A selfie every time, to remember it, eighteen years of them now sitting in a book that's already finished.
โ Judgment
โ Confidence
โ Resilience
โ Responsibility
โ The ability to make thoughtful decisions
โ Knowing they have a family they can always turn to
Casey and Katie have thought about this a lot this month, watching their oldest daughter step into her own next chapter. The goal was never to provide her everything. It was to prepare her for anything.
That's legacy, long before it ever shows up as a number on a statement. It's also, in a lot of ways, the whole point of doing this work in the first place.

The money conversation deserves a spot on that list too, even if it's easy to let it slide behind everything else that feels more urgent in the moment.
A few worth having before the semester gets busy:
โ A credit card is debt, not extra spending money
โ Recurring expenses quietly control a budget more than any single purchase does
โ Building credit and carrying debt aren't the same thing
โ Asking for help early beats hiding a mistake
None of this requires a finance degree or a formal sit down. It just takes one honest conversation, ideally before move in day, not after the first mistake happens. ๐ฌ

It's tempting to assume one less person at home automatically means one less expense to plan around. In practice, costs tend to shift instead of disappear.
โ Tuition and housing support
โ Travel back and forth to visit
โ Help with a car, insurance, or eventually a first apartment
โ Family vacations built around a very different schedule
โ The cost of maintaining a home that was built for more people than currently live in it
Financial transitions are rarely as simple as subtracting one expense and calling it done. Usually something else quietly takes its place. ๐ญ
