In Loving Memory of Vanessa Bickham

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved colleague and dear friend, Vanessa Bickham, who passed away on May 31, 2026.

Vanessa joined our team in 2003 and quickly became an irreplaceable part of our organization. For more than two decades, she exemplified dedication, professionalism, loyalty, and grace. Her commitment to her work and her unwavering support of those around her helped shape our company and touched the lives of countless coworkers, clients, and friends.

Beyond her professional contributions, Vanessa was a beautiful friend whose compassion, warmth, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her smile, laughter, and friendship will be deeply missed. Her laughter had a way of lighting up every room and bringing joy to those around her. She was someone people could depend on—someone who listened, encouraged, and cared deeply for others.

Vanessa’s faith and devotion to her family were at the heart of who she was. The love she had for her family, along with the strength and grace she drew from her faith, were evident in the way she lived her life and treated others. These qualities inspired those around her and will remain an enduring part of her legacy.

Today, we mourn the loss of a treasured member of our work family while also celebrating the beautiful life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind. The impact Vanessa made on our organization and on each of us personally will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with her family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Thank you, Vanessa, for your twenty-three years of service, your friendship, your kindness, and the countless ways you enriched our lives. You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always cherished in our hearts.

Rental property owners — this one’s important. ‼️

Most rental losses are considered “passive,” which means you can’t deduct them unless you have passive income to offset them. If you don’t, those losses get suspended.

But there’s an exception.

If you qualify as a real estate professional (750+ hours in real estate and more than half your working time spent there), your rental losses may become immediately deductible.

Even if you don’t meet that standard, smaller landlords may still qualify to deduct up to $25,000 — depending on income.

The difference can be significant.

If you own rental property and aren’t sure how your losses are being treated, it’s worth a conversation.

Businesses: Don’t wait too long on clean energy tax incentives.

Some clean energy tax breaks are ending, but there’s still a window to take advantage of certain incentives if you act in the first half of 2026.

If you’re planning building improvements, the Section 179D deduction may allow you to deduct the cost of qualifying energy-efficient upgrades now, instead of depreciating them over decades.

Eligible improvements can include:
• Interior lighting 💡
• HVAC and hot water systems 💧
• Building envelope upgrades ⬆️

Projects that significantly reduce energy use may qualify for deductions per square foot, with even larger benefits for projects that meet wage and apprenticeship requirements.

Need help figuring out whether a project qualifies? We’re happy to walk through it with you.

More taxpayers may qualify for the casualty loss deduction.

Starting in 2026, personal casualty loss deductions won’t be limited to federally declared disasters anymore. Certain state-declared disasters may now qualify, too — as long as the governor and the U.S. Treasury Secretary agree the damage meets the criteria.

That means more people affected by fires, floods, explosions, or other disasters may be eligible for relief regardless of the cause.

Even losses that aren’t tied to a declared disaster may still be deductible in some cases. If you’ve experienced damage and aren’t sure what applies to you, it’s worth asking.

We’re here to help you sort through it!

Tax season doesn’t start in April — it starts now. ⏰

đź“… January and February come with important deadlines, including estimated payments, W-2s, and 1099s. For Louisiana filers, the state begins accepting individual income tax returns on January 26.

February 2 is the deadline for employers to send W-2s and most 1099s, and February 10 is the cut-off for reporting certain January deposits.

A little preparation now makes the rest of tax season much less stressful!

đź’°Did you know tip income and overtime pay may now be deductible? Up to $25,000 for tips and $12,500 for overtime, depending on income.

No, it’s not a loophole.
Yes, it’s something you should plan for. Not panic about later.
