The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. Formal guidance to be issued soon by the IRS.

2021 individual tax filing season to begin February 12, 2021.

The Internal Revenue Service announced that it will begin accepting and processing 2020 tax year returns for individuals on February 12, 2021. The IRS said the delay is due to the additional time required for programming and testing of its systems to incorporate the tax changes included in the CAA, H.R. 133, signed into law on December 27, 2020.

The IRS is already processing 2020 business tax returns since January 8, 2021
