A February 2026 survey of 785 U.S. small business owners found that more than three in four say owning a business is worth it, even though 56% faced early cash flow problems. Separately, 78% of owners reported optimism about their financial outlook for 2026, and 77% said in April that ownership had met or exceeded their expectations for satisfaction.

A new Intuit QuickBooks report found that 74% of Black business owners say creating career paths for people from backgrounds like their own is very important to them. That was the highest of any group surveyed.

We are back with new insights to the Small Business Confidence Index. In July, Revenue expectations held flat at 62%. But economic pessimism dropped nine points, and hiring plans rose to 49%. Small business owners are expecting less pressure this month. That's what's putting people back on payroll.
