On Thursdays, I teach Restorative Flow Yoga. As I transition from teaching yoga to teaching friends and clients about money, I begin to ask myself: "What does restorative yoga have to do with your finances?" More than you might think.
As someone who both practices and teaches restorative yoga, Iāve learned that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pause, breathe, and create space.
And the same is true with money.
We often approach finances from a place of urgencyāI need to spend less. I should be saving more. Iām behind. Iāll deal with it later.
But what if, instead, we slowed down and got curious? Try these simple practices with your finances:
1. Pause before making an impulse purchase.
2. Breathe when looking at a number that makes you uncomfortable.
3. Create space in your budget for what truly matters.
4. Reflect on whether your spending aligns with the life you want.
5. Rest knowing that small, consistent steps can create meaningful change.
Financial wellness isnāt just about spreadsheets and numbers. Itās also about the relationship we have with our moneyāand the ability to make thoughtful decisions instead of reacting from stress.
At Next Chapter Finances, we believe your financial plan should support your life, not add more stress to it.
Sometimes the next chapter starts with simply taking a breath.

Your pets are part of the familyāand they belong in the budget, too.
I learned this firsthand with my English Setter. At a routine visit, we discovered that he had a heart murmur. What I never planned for suddenly included cardiology consultations, imaging, and medication.
Those expenses werenāt in my original budget. But would I ever say no to taking care of him? Absolutely not!
Thatās why I believe pet expenses deserve a place in your financial plan. You canāt predict every diagnosis or emergency, but you can prepare for the unexpected.
A smart pet budget might include:
- A monthly āpet careā category
- An emergency fund for unexpected vet bills
- Room for specialty care, testing, and medications
- Regular expenses like food, grooming, and treats
Planning ahead wonāt make unexpected expenses disappearābut it can make them a little easier to handle when they come.
At Next Chapter Finances, we believe a good budget makes room for the thingsāand the petsāyou love.

Everyone wants better financial resultsābut lasting progress doesn't start with the numbers.
Each Thursday, the 3-2-1 newsletter by James Clear appears in my inbox. Last Thursday, he reminded us: "Everyone wants better results. Skill precedes results. Practice precedes skill. Attitude precedes practice. It's the willingness to try (and keep trying) that leads to ability."
The same is true with your finances.
Financial confidence isn't built overnight. It grows through small, consistent actions: creating a budget, paying down debt, building savings, asking questions, and learning along the way.
You don't have to be perfect to make progress. You just have to be willing to startāand keep showing up.
Every positive financial habit you build today becomes the foundation for greater confidence tomorrow.

Fun Friday Financial Fact: Over 60% of the world now uses digital wallets!
Is your wallet getting lighter? Itās not just you. More than half of American adults have officially ditched physical cards for apps like Apple Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.
Here is how the numbers break down,
by age:
- Gen Z Leads: Over 90% of young adults use digital wallets daily.
- Boomers catch up: Around 25% of Baby Boomers are making the switch.
by purchases:
- Online shopping: 61% of us prefer digital wallets when buying online.
