Ohio is one of the friendlier tax states for retirement.

Social Security isn't taxed here. Everything past the first $26,050 gets a flat 2.75 percent, so a retired couple drawing $95,000 on top of their benefits owes the state about $1,900 a year. Small credits usually trim it a bit further.

And the no-tax states still get paid.

Tennessee runs a 9.6 percent sales tax.

Florida homeowners insurance is quoting $8,000 to $11,000 a year.
