There can be a lot of confusion around titles in the accounting and bookkeeping world. But honestly not every accountant is a CPA, and not every person providing bookkeeping services offers the same level of service. Some bookkeeping services may focus primarily on data entry and basic transaction categorization. Others may provide a broader range of services, such as account reconciliations, transaction review, financial reporting, payroll, A/P and A/R, cleanup work, and helping business owners understand their financial information.
When you're hiring someone to handle your books, don't be afraid to ask what services they actually provide. Are they simply entering transactions? Are they reconciling your accounts? Are they reviewing what's being recorded? Are they preparing financial statements? Are they handling payroll?
At Downeast Ledger & Payroll Services, I focus on more than simply entering transactions. I want your books to be accurate, reviewed, and useful—so you can better understand what's happening in your business.
A title only tells you so much. What matters is understanding what someone is actually doing for your business.
