For many business owners, the company represents the majority of their net worth and years of accumulated effort, which makes the decision to sell as much a personal one as a financial one. The considerations extend well beyond the valuation itself, from how the deal is structured and taxed to what replaces the income the business once provided. Owners who begin the conversation years in advance tend to have more flexibility in how they approach those questions. If a transition is somewhere on your horizon, our team is here to help you think through what that process could look like alongside your broader financial picture.

A will alone may be sufficient for a straightforward estate, though for households with significant assets that is often not the case. In many situations the two documents serve complementary purposes. A trust can hold the bulk of the estate so those assets transfer outside of probate, and it may allow for terms such as staggered distributions or protections for certain beneficiaries. The will can then address anything not retitled into the trust, along with guardianship if there are minor children. If your estate documents have not been reviewed recently, it may be a good time to revisit the structure with your advisory team.

Computer software and accessories prices jumped a record 17.4% year over year, underscoring the mounting cost pressures tied to surging AI-driven demand, a concern echoed in the Fed's June meeting minutes alongside the Middle East conflict and existing tariffs. Broader inflation did show signs of cooling, with US CPI falling in June for the first time in six years, driven by the biggest decline in gasoline prices since 2022. However, with hostilities between the US and Iran having recently reignited, the inflationary impact from renewed disruption to the Strait of Hormuz remains yet to be seen, and layered on top of persistent AI-driven price pressures, the path forward for inflation remains uncertain, keeping the Fed and markets on alert.
