Today I attended a SCORE Mentors hosted by Business Law Group and U.S. Bank and I did something I don’t get to do very often — interact with other local small business owners without being “the accountant” in the room.
I got to just be another business owner.
And I really enjoyed that.
Owning a business is weird. You can be really good at what you do and still regularly find yourself thinking, “Okay…how am I supposed to know how to handle THIS?”
That’s where organizations like SCORE can be incredibly valuable.
SCORE connects small business owners with experienced mentors who have actually been in business, dealt with the growing pains, made mistakes, figured things out and have some perspective to offer. You can talk through an idea, a problem, a decision you’re stuck on, or even just where you’re trying to take the business next.
And the mentoring is free.
You don’t have to be brand new. You don’t have to be struggling. And you definitely don’t have to wait until something is on fire before asking someone else for their perspective.
One thing I was reminded of today is that none of us really has this whole business-owner thing figured out.
We’re all figuring out the next part as we go.
Having someone knowledgeable to bounce things off of can be pretty valuable. You're not alone. If you need help, it's available.
