Chicago why?
In some cases business license fees have doubled. In others they have increased by as much as 400 percent.
That is not a small adjustment. That is a significant financial shift for entrepreneurs trying to start or sustain a business.
We say we support small businesses. Increases like this create real barriers, especially for first time founders and service professionals operating on tight margins.
If we want economic growth, we have to be honest about the cost of entry.

Student Loan Update: Wage Garnishment Paused for Borrowers in Default
The U.S. Department of Education has paused plans to resume wage garnishment and tax refund seizures for federal student loan borrowers in default.
This means millions of borrowers who were facing paycheck reductions of up to 15% will not see garnishment move forward at this time. The pause is intended to give borrowers additional time as repayment and default-management policies continue to evolve.
What this means right now:
• Wage garnishment and tax refund offsets are temporarily on hold
• This applies to borrowers already in default on federal student loans
• The pause is not permanent, but it creates short-term financial relief
If you are in default, this is an opportunity to get informed, explore repayment or rehabilitation options, and prepare for what comes next instead of waiting for enforcement to resume.
This situation highlights how quickly student loan policy can change — and why staying informed matters.
