Warning. There is a TV commercial by TaxAct that suggests a dog walker can deduct his walking shoes. This is blatantly incorrect. Tax Pros all over will verify this. I am appalled that a national ad campaign is putting out such false info.

Just a heads up! The withholding on your paycheck will likely change in the next month. The IRS has updated it's withholding tables to work with the new tax laws, and companies need to implement these changes by Feb. 15. New W-4s are in the process of being created to further best match withholding to your situation. Until then, your previous W-4s are being used.

This new tax bill is almost law. It just needs the President's signature now. Rest assured, I will be working hard to fully understand everything that will change in the new year.

One easy item to point out. Take a look at your 2016 tax return. Any deductions claimed on Schedule A, line 27 will no longer be allowed. (This includes: union dues, tax prep fees, job travel, job education, investment expenses and other unreimbursed employee expenses). While this won't affect everybody, for those it does affect, it is quite significant.

April 18, 2017 marks the official end of this tax season. BUT, it is also the due date for the first estimated payments for next year. Don't forget to get that in as well.
