“I’ll categorize those later.”

“I’m pretty sure everything reconciles.”

“I’ll deal with it before tax season.”

“I know how much money I’m making. I check my bank account.”

If you’ve said one (or all) of these, you’re in good company. Bookkeeping is one of those things that’s easy to put off when you’re busy actually running the business.

But a few little “I’ll do it later"s can eventually turn into a pretty big project.

You don’t need perfect books. You just need a good system and a little consistency to keep things from piling up.

Somehow, we’re already heading into the last few months of the year.

Before Q4 gets busy, September is a great time to give your books a quick check-in. Are your accounts reconciled?

Are there transactions you’ve been meaning to categorize? Do you actually know how the year is shaping up so far?

Nothing dramatic. Just a little financial housekeeping now so December-you has one less thing to deal with.

Set aside 15 minutes every month to review your numbers.

Look at your income.

Review your expenses.

Check your cash flow.

Make sure your accounts are reconciled.

It doesn't have to take hours, but making it a regular habit can help you catch issues early and make better business decisions throughout the year. Small, consistent habits often have the biggest impact.

Bookkeeping isn't just about getting ready to file taxes.

Keeping your books up to date helps you:
• Know where your money is going
• Make better business decisions
• Stay on top of cash flow
• Feel prepared all year long

The more often you review your financials, the fewer surprises you'll have when tax season rolls around.

Think of bookkeeping as a tool for running your business, not just checking a box once a year.

When was the last time you looked at your financial reports? Let me know in the comments.

QuickBooks is a great tool, but it's only helpful when it's set up and maintained correctly.

Here are three common mistakes I see:
-Not reconciling accounts every month
-Mixing personal and business expenses
-Ignoring uncategorized transactions

These small issues can turn into bigger problems over time, making it harder to understand your finances and prepare for tax season.

A few simple changes now can save you time, money, and stress later.

Have a QuickBooks question? Send me a message. I'm happy to help!

While I'm the one balancing the books, I do have a couple of coworkers who insist on supervising every workday.

My cat and dog are usually close by while I'm working with clients. They're experts at reminding me to take a break, keeping my office interesting, and occasionally making an appearance during a meeting.

Running a remote business has its perks, and having these two around is definitely one of them.

Now I'd love to know... do you have a furry coworker who keeps you company while you work? Share a photo of your office assistant in the comments. I'd love to meet them!

One of the things I love most about bookkeeping is that no two businesses are the same.

I've worked with companies in banking, breweries, construction, architecture, and many other industries. Every business has its own challenges, goals, and way of operating. That's what keeps this work interesting.

I don't believe bookkeeping should feel intimidating or overwhelming. It should give you clarity. When your financials are organized, you can make decisions with confidence instead of guessing.
That's the kind of support I want every client to have.

What's the biggest bookkeeping challenge you're facing right now? I'd love to hear about it – visit the link in the comments to get started.
