How does Islamic finance actually work?

It is not only about avoiding interest. Islamic finance also focuses on honest trade, clear contracts, lawful activities, real ownership, and fair responsibility for risk.

A financier may earn money through:

• Selling an asset at a disclosed profit
• Leasing an asset it owns
• Entering a business partnership
• Investing capital with an experienced manager
• Financing goods or construction projects

Before signing any Islamic finance agreement, ask who owns the asset, who carries the risk, how the financier earns its profit, and whether all costs are clearly disclosed.

An Islamic name alone does not automatically make a financial product Sharia-compliant.

Most Muslims know that riba is prohibited.

But what replaces an interest-based loan?

Islamic finance uses real trade, leasing, partnerships, investments, and shared ownership.

In this carousel, you will learn:

• Murabaha—cost-plus sale
• Ijarah—leasing
• Musharakah—partnership
• Mudarabah—capital and expertise
• Salam and Istisna—future delivery
• Sukuk—asset-based investment
• Takaful—cooperative protection

Islamic finance does not mean free money or guaranteed profit. It means that profit should be connected to ownership, effort, trade, or risk.

Which type of loan is right for you?

This carousel explains the most common loans in the United States—from mortgages and auto loans to student loans, business financing, HELOCs, and personal loans.

Before borrowing, always ask:

• What is the APR?
• What fees will I pay?
• Is the rate fixed or variable?
• What is the total repayment?
• What property or collateral is at risk?

A smaller monthly payment does not always mean a cheaper loan.

Save this carousel and share it with someone planning to borrow money.

Before taking out a loan, make sure you understand what you are signing.

Mortgages, personal loans, auto loans, student loans, business loans, and home-equity loans all work differently.

Do not focus only on the monthly payment. Review the APR, fees, loan term, total repayment, and the consequences if you cannot make the payments.

Take your time. Compare multiple offers. Ask questions when something is unclear.

You don’t want to owe the IRS money you didn’t plan for. Here’s the 5-slide breakdown: Slide 1, you’re still waiting on a K-1 or 1099. Slide 2, you had a major life change this year. Slide 3, your books aren’t closed yet. Slide 4, you started a business mid-year. Slide 5, you just need more time to do it right. An extension buys time to file. It doesn’t buy time to pay.
