A good Reason to file your tax returns on time!

Beginning this year, the IRS will now automatically apply penalty relief to taxpayers with a history of filing and paying on time.

Automatic Exemption from Penalty reflects the IRS’ commitment to making the payment of taxes owed simpler and more consistent,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano. β€œBy automatically applying penalty relief, the IRS recognizes that taxpayers who historically pay on time should not have to make a formal request for relief that is routinely granted."

πŸ“¬ **Got a letter from the IRS? You don't necessarily have to handle it alone.**

One of the fundamental rights in the **Taxpayer Bill of Rights** is the right to retain an authorized representative when dealing with the IRS.

That representative can be an attorney, CPA, enrolled agent, or another person authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Having representation may allow your representative to:

βœ… Communicate with the IRS on your behalf
βœ… Help you understand what the IRS is asking for
βœ… Assist with audits, appeals, or collection matters
βœ… Help you navigate the process and your options

And in most situations, if you request to consult with your representative during an IRS interview, the IRS must suspend the interview.

At **Mt View CPAs**, we're here to help our clients navigate tax matters with knowledge and confidence.

πŸ’™ **If you've received an IRS notice and aren't sure what to do next, don't ignore it β€” reach out to us.**

We're here to help you understand your options.

πŸ’° **Think estimated taxes are only for self-employed people? Think again!**

You may need to make estimated tax payments if you receive income without enough taxes being withheld.

That could include:

πŸ“ˆ Investment income & dividends
🏠 Rental income
πŸ’΅ Capital gains
πŸ“š Royalties
πŸ† Prizes & awards
πŸ’Ό Self-employment income

Generally, if you expect to owe **$1,000 or more** when you file your tax return, estimated payments may be required.

And missing the mark can mean more than an unexpected tax bill β€” **you could also face an underpayment penalty.**

πŸ“… The next estimated tax payment deadline is **September 15**.

At Mt View CPAs, we don't want our clients finding out about their tax bill after the fact. **Proactive tax planning can help you understand what you may owe and avoid unpleasant surprises at filing time.**

If your income has changed this year, now is a good time to review your estimated payments.

πŸ‘‰ **Have questions about whether you're paying enough? Give Mt View CPAs a call.**

πŸ’» **Business owners: have you checked out the IRS Business Tax Account?**

The IRS has expanded the features available through **Business Tax Account (BTA)**, giving eligible businesses a convenient way to manage federal tax information online.

Depending on your business type and role, you may be able to:

βœ… Make or schedule tax payments
βœ… Cancel scheduled payments
βœ… Check recent payment activity
βœ… Download tax transcripts
βœ… View certain IRS notices
βœ… Request a tax compliance check
βœ… Review the business information the IRS has on file

BTA is currently available to several types of organizations, including sole proprietors with an EIN, S corporations, C corporations, certain partners and shareholders, governments, tribal governments, and tax-exempt organizations.

πŸ“Œ **A little more online access can mean a little less paperwork.**

Visit the IRS Business Tax Account page to see whether you're eligible and what features are available to you.

Not all tax professionals are the same. Here's something important to know. πŸ‘‡

If you're ever audited or need to dispute something with the IRS, not just anyone can represent you. Only two types of tax professionals have full IRS representation rights:

βœ… CPAs (Certified Public Accountants)
βœ… Enrolled Agents (EAs) β€” federally licensed by the IRS

Other tax preparers can file your return, but they can't walk into an IRS audit with you or advocate on your behalf.

Our team at Mt. View CPAs includes both CPAs and Enrolled Agents. We're here for the full picture β€” not just tax season.

❀️ Planning to give to charity this year? Save those receipts!

There’s an important change for **2026 taxes** that charitable donors should know about.

Even if you **take the standard deduction**, you may be able to deduct up to:

πŸ’° **$1,000** in cash charitable contributions
πŸ’° **$2,000** if you’re married and file jointly

The contribution must be made to a qualifying charitable organization.

A few reminders from Mt View CPAs:

βœ… Keep your donation receipts and bank records
βœ… Make sure the organization qualifies for tax-deductible donations
βœ… For donations of **$250 or more**, keep the written acknowledgment from the charity
βœ… Keep good records for non-cash donations, too

The easiest way to make tax time less stressful? **Keep your charitable donation records as you go.**

πŸ“Œ Save this post as a reminder β€” and bring those receipts with you when we prepare your taxes!

🚨 DEADLINE REMINDER: October 15 is next week. This is your final warning.

Extended tax filers β€” if you haven't filed your 2025 return yet, you are almost out of time. After Thursday there is no more deadline, no more grace period, and no more extensions.

Miss it and you owe penalties on top of any balance you already have.

We can still help β€” but call us TODAY. We need your documents to get this done in time.

⏰ October 15 is coming FAST β€” and this one is serious.

If you got a tax extension back in April, October 15 is your FINAL deadline to file your 2025 return. There are no more extensions after this. None.

And if you owe money? Penalties start the moment this deadline passes β€” on top of interest that's been adding up since April 15.

Don't wait. Don't assume you have more time. Call us this week and we will get you taken care of before the deadline.
